I just wanted to let Rat Cutlery know that I love my rat knives (especially my rc-5) and to show you guys a pic of my rc-5 splitting a hair! To me its cool to know that even though the Rc-5 is a tank and is an awesome survival SERE knife, it can get so sharp it can whittle a piece of hair. Its still at the factory angle as well!! Enjoy :)

Great job!
Reminds me I need to work (alot!) more on my sharpening skills.

Thx, ya 1095 is really easy to sharpen and gets a nice razor edge. I used the paper wheel sharpening system. It only took about 30 secs to get this edge polished.

Nice....But as devils advocate, cutting hair (or splitting it) and push cutting paper are good tests of edge sharpness but do not necessarily tell the story of slicing ability. When cutting thicker material you will always encounter the situation where the blade has to part the material being cut and the thickness of the blade cannot be changed no matter how sharp the edge is. Consider the case of batoning wood. Once you sink the edge past the bevel, the edge doesn't even touch the wood any more. It just splits with all the friction occurring along the signs of the blade.

Still - splitting hairs means you have one heck of a sharp edge. Congrats!

Lol, thanks for the comments guys. Ya I understand about the slicing ability issue. I guess I just got bored and decided to polish the edge (notice I posted this thread at 2:30 am lol). I got the paper wheels through a link in richard j's thread about paper wheel sharpening. Its a good system for me because it takes hardly any time or skill whatsoever, lol. Soon i'll take this knife out in the woods and run it through some real tests.
