I am curious why the RC-5 is sporting a Saber as opposed to the flat grind seen on all the other RC blades. Is there an advantage or is it purely visual aesthetics?

I believe there is very little in the design of a RAT Cutlery blade that would be considered "purely visual asthetics".

The way Jeff put it was that the SERE guys he talked to regarding the design were looking for something to go with the E's that stand for "Evasion" and "Escape" hence prying, digging, etc. might be necessary. For more typical bushcraft use a full flat grind would be more ideal, but the RC-5 was meant for those situations where it's your one tool so it has to be able to do EVERYthing.
Though it does serve to differentiate it clearly from the OKC line.![]()
