We had some beautiful weather here in Norther Va. this weekend. It's been a while since I've been camping and I mentioned to my girlfriend how I was dying to go and this would be a great weekend to do it. To my surprise she actually agree to go with me! Keep in mind that she is not the outdoorsy type (yet, I'm still working on that). She just said to make sure I picked up some s'mores fixins and a bottle of her favorite wine.
Anyway I ran out and picked up some steaks, bacon, and eggs and bought her a sleeping bag and pad, and of course the s'mores and wine. I had some left over firewood from last year and through that in the truck as well. We were ready to roll around one o'clock Saturday and headed up to Shenandoah National Park for our first night of tent camping together.
The park is about an hour and a half from us. The drive was nice but when we got there all the campgrounds were full! I was really let down. We drove down Skyline drive a bit and stopped at an overlook to walk the dog and stretch our legs before heading home.

Anyway once back at our place I was determined to at least get the flavor of some camping. I grabbed my RC-5 and headed out to my apartments balcony. Let me just say the RC-5 is a beast! This was my first chance to really use it at all and I battoned several pieces of seasoned oak with ease. The logs seemed to just give up under the thickness of the knife.
I then built a fire (using my KSF Firewallet) in our fireplace and we proceeded to enjoy some cold beverages and, yes, s'mores in out living room! Not a bad day after all!

The RC-5 sustained the tell tale coating wear of some loving use. It looks better than ever.

The pointed sustained no damage whatsoever even though I was beating the bejeezes out of it. Some of the logs were about 5 inches in diameter so I was hitting the knife right on the last half inch of the point for some of em.

AND it was still shaving sharp. Literally.

No camping for us this weekend but I still got to use one of my RATs and that's pretty good for me. My girl loved the s'mores too. Thanks RAT!
