Hello

I'm thinking of picking myself an RC-5 and I was wondering what are the measurements on the accessory pocket on the sheath.
I've heard people sticking a whole lotta stuff in there, but how big is it exactly?

And while were at the subject what kinda sharpening product would be recommended for field sharpning (my free-hand sharpening is adequate)?
I'll probably get something double sided but would a stone or a diamond file be better?
Also which would be more convenient: medium&fine or medium&coarse?

Ty in advance!

The pocket is about 3in long 1 1/2in wide and 1in deep. As for the sharpening i use a medium-fine stone it seems to do the job for me. Hope this helps you

Ok I've narrowed down some possibilities for a field sharpener.
First I was thinking about the Lansky Double-Sided Diamond Folding Paddle , but I guess it might be a bit too big for the pocket. (If you know the lenght of it when closed, please post).
So in the end the only one suitable was this:
Fallkniven Combination Whetstone Your thoughts on it?
And yes, Knifeworks is pretty much my only place as they have all the knives I want and they ship internationally.

Creepo I have the Falkniven DC4 stone it is very fine and a very fine ceramic side. We sell the stones we hae had through work seem to have almost milling marks on the ceramic side. It doesn't effect the performance.
Not the sort of stone if you sharpen once a year but if your inclined to do it everyday you use it ( at night around the fire) then it will do well.

Yea it'd be mainly for in-field sharpening and touching up.
Good to hear it works. I was just wondering if it was too fine to be used on such a blade.
Ill get a separate sharpening system with preset angles for sharpening at home.

I recently got a Fallkniven DC4 and I can reccomend it. It comes in a nice leather sheath itself so it's great for travel. I haven't handled a the smaller DC3, but for fixed blades and larger blades in general, the DC4 is perfect.

You should also look into getting a peice of jasper to finish off the blade and break off any (microscopic) wire edge that might be left on the blade after sharpening. Ragweedforge.com has some in the sharpening section, and I belive he ships internationally if you can't find jasper locally.

Yea I'll try to get a confirmation to the sheath measurements to decide if I should get the DC3 or if it's big enough for the DC4.

I'm planning to buy and RC 5 soon:D, i will put my Spyderco 303MF into the pocket....thats my faveorite sharpening device:thumbdn::thumbdn:. I prefer Ceramic over Diamonds...

Ceramic is for toilet bowls and coffee mugs, but diamonds are a blades best friend.:D

That's the first I've seen that Spyderco sharpener, looks pretty nice.

I use a falkniven DC4 and it works great. The diamond side removes metal quickly while the ceramic provides a finer edge. I coated the sheath with green compound and it works as a finishing strop. It fts into the pocket on my RC5 along with a survival kit, a boyscout knife and under the elastic band I carry my strikeforce firesteel. I also have 50 feet of paracord on the back of the sheath.

So far, all I have in the pocket of my RC-5 is my leatherman Surge and my RAT fire kit under the elastic band.

I picked up some really small mint tins the other day and I'm working my way through the mints so I can make one a fishing kit for in the pocket.

So the DC4 DOES fit? Excellent, marvellous, thank you for that info, couldn't have been more reliable. I'll be getting that with the RC-5 then. :D

A Leatherman in the pocket, now THAT is what I'd call WIN! :D
I might give that option a shot as well. :P
