RC-5 sheath clip

I recently purchase a RC-5 and let me say I love it! It is a wonderful blade with excellent edge geometry, makes short work of the woolly nightshade we have here in NZ and handles feather sticks nicely too. But, I have run in to a minor problem. It really is not that big of a problem at all and I want more of your thoughts on this than anything else but anyways. I was working on top of a ledge and jumped down to the ground below (about 4ft drop) and the sheath caught on the edge of the ledge. This caused the butt (glass breaker) to jam into my side while bending the belt clip. This was by NO means not my fault but something that happened non the less. The clip was bent to almost 90 degrees and immediately I had thought that it was done for. Well, I went to the shed and took a pair of larger pliers and bent it back to normal. Works fine now which is awesome. But I am just thinking is there any way for a more durable (less prone to bending) clip to be acquired? I was thinking maybe titanium. But then again you guys are probably just going to tell me to go custom, which is not necessarily a poor idea. What do you guys think, ESEE should offer an aftermarket titanium clip option? Thanks

I know that knifekits.com offers Kydex belt clips. I'm not sure if they would fit the sheath or not, though I'm sure you could get a drill and modify as necessary. I think Kydex could handle what you're talking about. Worth consideration anyway. Hope that helps.

God bless,
Adam

Clips of any kind are either going to 1) break if they are made out of plastic/kydex or 2) bend if they are metal. At least in my experience. What I would do personally, is take the clip plate, remove the metal clip, drill 4 holes in it and thread paracord through there for paracord belt loops and secure it with a cord lock or just a square knot if you won't need to adjust it much.

If you aren't familiar with the paracord belt loop setup, the general idea can be found here in the lower right of the page.

or you could get the molle back its heavy cordura and puts the sheath at a perfect hight for me.

maybe you should have been wearing your knife with with handle down and blade up like is mentioned in another post.

Paracord is a good idea, I might just try that out.

I am looking at getting the MOLLE pack.

As far as the upsidedown carry goes, why?

He was being sarcastic. There was a post yesterday about carrying a HEST upside down on the belt. To each their own but partisan and I seem to agree that it's not for us.

I'm waiting for the wife to get ready for dinner so I made you a doodle. Remove metal clip, drill holes for paracord in similar configuration to the yellow dots. Bingo...bango...poppa-shango.

I think the Cordura sheath is in order:thumbup: That is, when I get the cash. Thanks for your impute guys, it is greatly appreciated.

there are cordura sheaths, but we've been talking about the MOLLE back that bolts onto the kydex. you can see it better here I think...

I hemmed and hawed over getting the MOLLE-back and pouch for my 5 for several months... it's really a no-brainer - even if you don't think you'll need it, get it. Once you have it you'll recognize the quality construction and flexibility in carriage.

My only regret is simply not getting it sooner.

Dustin you gunna break my bank, lmao! As now I'm going to get the mollee sheath soon rather than later, thanks, lmao.
As for bending the clip, I'm thinking having a spare wouldn't be such a bad idea. Still, the metal used Must be good if you managed to bend it back without heating it and it didn't snap! Way to go ESEE!!

i have just started to use paracord to loop around the belt. it has been working fine so far
