I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before but do you think there is any chance of ESEE making a thinner RC-5? Maybe flat grind. I think it would be a great seller.

you mean like the Ontario RAT-5?
I suspect it's not likely - but it never hurts to ask.

The knife was meant for a downed pilot type situation, so it is perfect for its' design as it is :)

It'd be too similiar to the four and six I think. I believe they've said they're going to focus on variations of the line, but not really many new knives. The current lineup really doesn't leave much out in terms of use.

Exactly, that's my point. It is too task specific and many of us aren't in a downed pilot situation. The one criticism that seems to come up over and over is that the RC-5 is just too thick and heavy. Why not offer a "Wilderness RC-5"?

The ESEE 5 will be what it is... may need to get a ESEE 4 or see if the ESEE 6 will fit the bill.

Just recently got my RC-5 and believe it is perfect for the purpose it was intended for. If your camping the rc-6 would a better fit due to its additional length the functional choil not to mention the weight. just my PO

You have to remember that ESEE knives are not just produced for you and I but military, SAR and LEO personnel. They have need for a thick, heavy blade hence the RC-5. That's why the RC-4 and RC-6 were created, for wilderness applications. What does the RC-5 have that you can't get in a 3, 4 or 6

This may have been asked....but what exactly is a "wilderness application" and why can't the RC-5 perform it ? Because, I'm pretty sure mine has.

From my experience with it, it's everything you'd want in a "last ditch" knife. It's not one of those pretty little bushcraft steak knife types (not that there's anything wrong with those! can we say "damage control"?!) but what it IS, is a machine if you know how to handle it.

I hope they don't change a thing about it. It's perfect the way it is. A thinner profile won't do anything but hurt it, IMHO. It needs to be thick to have enough forward weight to make an effective chopper.

If you want a knife to slice paper thin onions and cut a little rope get an ESEE4 (have to get used to saying that) or ESEE3.

Just my .02.

As for a five as a general woods knife, it's not incapable at all. It's just the six is better, for most people. Both chop terribly compared to a proper tool

No one upset man. Just all saying why it's unlikely. There's really no need for a knife between the size of the four and six. If one or the other doesn't work for you, a five inch version probably wouldn't either. Just simple logic :)
