Hello

I was going to buy a Gerber LMF II before i saw these amazing blades.
I am an active outdoors person and go backpacking and camping often.

I am going to either buy a RC5 or an RC4.
Which should i get?

thanks for your help :D

The RC-5 has more weight to it and very solid. If your going to be using it for backpacking, camping, and general outdoors the RC-4 would be the better choice. They are both GREAT knives, but for some people the RC-5 is just a little too much.

I would get the RC6. RC5 is heavy and thick and RC4 is a little short for battoning those thicker, wider logs. RC4 and RC6 are the same thickness just RC6 is longer.

Ever hear the saying better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. The RC5 is a beast. So if you ever find yourself having to cut yourself our of any situation I want the big honkin' RC5. You can use the 5 as an axe. I don't even bring an axe camping anymore. Just the RC5

I dont own the 4, but do have the rc 5, to me it just boils down to how much weight you want to carry. I am still fairly young (30) so I dont mind carrying extra weight. I also do more day hikes than overnighters, so to just carry the 5 for the day is no weight issue to me. If you are really into counting lbs like some ultralight hikers, than go with the 4. Either way, you cant go wrong. Especially over the Gerber!

I EDC an RC-5 (until I pick up an RC-6) and have for some time. I love the RC-5 for what it is, but find it is a little thick behind the edge for detail work. It'll work, sure, but the whole time I'm thinking how nice it would be to have a full flat grind on the thing. Unless you have a real need for the extra length and don't want to go all the way to the RC-6, I'd take the 4.

The LMF is an almost perfect design made of shoddy materials, you will wear it out or break it attempting the kinds of things a RAT knife can do. The RC4 is more of a companion, a hip carry kind of blade. The RC5 is a fairly large knife-it's a heavy thick blade made to be abused and hold up to every sort of thing you can throw at it in the bush. My RC5 is my go to big knife for backwoods adventures, and I carry a HEST as my companion blade. If you want to go large AND small, and cover all your bases, I'd recommend an RC5 or 6 AND an Izula/RC3/RC4/HEST. Many people like it because it is small enough for companion carry and large enough to cover most big knife tasks, so if you want one do-it-all knife it's a good choice.

The thing is that i already have a SOG trident tano...would it be redundant to get a blade only .25 inches bigger?

Get the RC6. It will slice better than the RC5 and you can split wood with it. Get an IZULA with it to make a combo that will handle most chores. Or if you know what you are doing, the RC6 should do fine just by itself. It has a nice choil so you can choke up on the blade for the smaller cutting tasks.

having both, I honestly couldn't say which one I like better.

You gotta realize tho that they are very different knives.

If you can only have one I vote for the RC-5.

yeah..im thinking that the RC-5 is overkill for what i need although too much knife isn't that big of a problem
