rc-6 chopping

Very limited. The RC-6 is a very capable and versatile blade, but chopping is certainly not its strong suit.

Yea, the blade is somewhat thinner than what you might think looking at pics and the knife has a really good overall balance, but not a weight forward balance like you would want in a chopper.

It'll chop, but there are better choppers out there.

Soon, the RAT cutlery RTAK will be coming to life and then you'll have your chopper.

RC6 is a Fantastic knife for everything but chopping, Light chopping is good but anything over 2.5" diameter,I'd swing an alternate knife until the RAT Cutlery RTAK hits the market if it is designed to RTAKII specs. if not a hatchet will chop for you or saw if you prefer LOL :D

It's not too bad. It takes small but substantial bites. If you really needed to chop something you could do it. This was done with a RAT-7, but it's about the same as the RC-6.

I really hope they make that one out of 1/4 inch :thumbup:

well until they come out with the RTAK I will have to use this as my chopper

Na, no date has been released as of yet. It'll be a while.

I have to ask this obvious question but will at the same time hijack the thread (sorry ripper13 for that). What blades would you consider using as choppers (besides RTAK (II), kurkuri, and machete) if someone was looking to buy a 10+ inch blade . What else is out there ?

Busse Battle Mistress, Becker BK-9, Ranger RD-9, Himalayan Imports AK Bowie.

For Bussekin, there's the Battle mistress line, the Battle Rat from Swamp Rat, and the Dogfather from Scrapyard.

Ranger RD-9

Himalayan Imports AK Bowie, Chitlangi Bowie, Kumar Karda, etc.

I'm sure there's some Beckers and such out there as well. Really no shortage of choppers.

CS Trail Master(9.5"blade) is great all around outdoors. Browning Competition knife for around 100 bucks is one smooth blade also, designed with chopping only in mind.

As for zipper chopping with a 6" blade is not the quickest route so maybe shunsui's pile of wood chips is a good indicator of the reasonable chopping potential.

The RC-6 is great for batonning... I wish I had some photos, but I was using mine to baton coconuts in half in Peru in January using a hammer. The hammer caused some of the coating on the spine to flake (as one would expect), but as you can see from the photo below, it was really no worse for wear, and it worked perfectly (and was still sharp afterward)...

Gee, sometimes it's hard to "settle". :D That there is the mother of all choppers. NMFBM- That's my favorite chopper of all time. The thing hits like an A-bomb with every whack. Super cool.

If RAT can make something that hits like that, they'll have a winner for sure.

That reminds me of chopping coconuts out on my porch with my FFBM. I didn't have a proper understanding of the forces involved, and hit a bit harder than I probably should. The coconut literally exploded- shooting pieces in all directions, and was so loud that some of my neighbors came outside to see what was going on. Choppers rule.

Dude, we can't challenge the king of all choppers! That's a Busse! :D

I had a FFBM Green blade black G10 scales it was cool.... but man that thing was a beast to pack around...I think it is some where in Australia chopping down under....just had to move it... cool factor was high but one of the last blades I grabbed head out the door ! Sweet ass chopper I loved it but let it go due lack of use for me !!
