Just a quick question, how thick is the RC-6?

I have a plain edge RC-3 and think it's a great small knife.

I hope to get an RC-6 for the summer.

Thanks, YB

Maximum thickness: .188"

Damn equal oppertunity soon-to-be RC-6 owners...

Thank you Dylside!

I just converted that to mm and it's 4.7752

That's good because it's not a crowbar!

An RC-6 in the UK will cost me 130 pounds. It's a lot of money but I know it will serve me very well. I like the company because they're nice people with a good ethos and great products. All across the internet people only have nice things to say about them.

Back in October my RC-3 cost me 100 quid (they've gone up now because of the exchange rate), I should get the RC-6 soon before Sterling takes another nose dive! :o

Your right the RC6 is no pry bar. However it is able to take heavy use and even reasonable prying duties without missing a beat.

Right on bro. I'm still having trouble deciding between the RC-6 and the RC-5. I know everyone's first solution is always "GET BOTH!" but I've only got the loochy for one or the other. I like the RC-6, but I have a lot of large knives that are good slicers. The RC-5 is the one I'm leaning towards so I can have a good "pry doors off cars and save babies" knife.

Oh no mate! Just when I thought I was decided you start talking about the RC-5 :cool:

I've asked the shop where I got the RC-3 from when he would get the RC-5, he said he would ask the distributor. I'm guessing it's got to be at least the same price as the RC-6, like you it'll be one or the other.

I've got a Ka Bar Machete Cutlass, two Gransfors Bruks axes (a mini and a small forest), a Kellam Wolverine and a Mora whittling knife.

So will it be the RC-5 or RC-6?

AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

I'll let you know when I make the order.

I'd vote for the RC-6. The flat grind 0.186" blade is strong yet cuts and slices well. The extra 1.5" length comes in handy for batoning. I think it would be a better companion knife to your RC-3.

Hmmmm.

The sheath would push me towards the RC-5.

Have you ever considered the RC-4?

Having had an extra day to think about things I think I prefer the RC-6, I just wish it came with as nice a sheath as the RC-5 does.

They're working on adding optional sheaths to the line, but nothing concrete yet. It almost certainly will happen, they just don't necessarily know when.

Eventually you'll want one of every model. As cool as the RC-5 is, I say the RC-6 is more usable. I plan to get one soon and I'm new to RAT. I just got my first, an RC-3 orange, and on the way I have an RC-3MIL and RC-4 tan. I'm quickly becoming an addict. Luckily, here the knives are quite affordable for the average knife nut. Would it make a difference ordering your next RAT from a US website? KSF accepts Paypal, so wouldn't you end up just converting $136.23 to £96.41 plus shipping and have yourself quite a deal?

RC-6 is the same thickness as an RC-4. I was very happy with the weight, balance and slicing ability of the 6.

Well, I'm in the opposite position. I've got plenty of crowbars, but no long, good slicers for field use. I've got some longer hollow grind fighting knives, but not what I would strap on in the forest.

I need another knife like an extra hole in the head. I'm up to my eyeballs in them. But, after working with the RC-5 yesterday and the day before, I was very impressed with how it handled and how clean and well-finished the production was. It looks like they've got a great line, and the more I look at the RC-6, the more I'm thinking I'd like to have it in the stable.

At least with the thinner steel, it would be something different for me to try out with a longer knife.

I think I'll pull the trigger on one.

That's a good idea except I might get stung by customs and have to pay tax on it. I'll have to get out a calculator and do some mathematics! If there's not much in it I'd get it from a UK knife shop, I figure it's good to keep them in business.
