How hard is it to put a fire bow divit in the other Rat Knives? I would imagine its just a matter of drilling sanding....repeat. Is there anything special you need to do to it? Has anyone ever done this?
 
what ever you decide be sure and place the knife in a vise or C-clamps to table, I seen one guy try to hold a knife and mod scales and next thing you know it was whirling around and he was bleeding ,cutting himself across the palm from pinky to thumb.... LOL you big Dummy is all I could think of....

YES!!

PLEASE, PLEASE Hold the knife in a VISE, and have the VISE clamped to a table. You should really use a drill press (preferably a Bridgeport mill). Especially if you are going to use a ball end mill, as end mills will aggressively cut material and there's NO WAY you could hold onto it by hand. It would also be a contest to see whether the whirling knife, or the end mill would remove more of your body.

Also remember to do the work outside and/or use a respirator and dust collection as the dust from the drilling/milling is toxic.

The micarta heats up pretty good while using it as a hand hold for a bow drill fire. Thats on the RC-5 with alot of steel and micarta inbetween your hand and the spindle, on a thinner RC-3 or RC-4.......

It works fine but, I don't think it works better than a peace of Oak, or bone. If in a survival situation it cuts down on time to have the divot there, but don't do it if you think it will work better. It may take away from the comfort of the smaller knives.

:thumbup::D I pictured that and it was funny... LOL ! sorry, but what a dumb ass move ! Im sure the cuts didn't hurt as much as his ego did! :D
