Greetings from a RAT newbie!

After much reading on this forum and other sites I am close to ordering my first RAT, an RC3. I really like the looks of the Desert Tan plain edge, but am a bit confused about the sheath options. With apologies to Mr Shakespeare, ‘to MOLLE back of not to MOLLE back, that is the question!’ So I come here for the input from the seasoned experts.

Is the Kydex sheath with the MOLLE locks sufficient to attach to a deploy bag or belt for EDC? (I read the thread that says the boot clip is not a belt clip) The MOLLE backing package doesn’t seem to come with the locks, so will it attach to a bag/belt? Since I'm retired Army, I won't be jumping it and there are not deployments on the horizon!

Help out the novice decide. What do you use, what do you like, what do you think? Any Desert Tan owners out there who want to share -pictures are always appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

I say its what you like. The sheath alone can be rigged almost any way you like. 550 cord is great stuff :)

MOLLE locks are great for belt or pack carry, but it you plan on carrying it inverted or just want the extra retention then get the full backing. :)

I got two sheaths for my RC-3--one with a MOLLE backing for inverted shoulder strap carry, and one set up for horizontal small-of-the-back carry with MOLLE locks.

For a knife the size of the RC-3 I don't think the molle back is necessary. I've said it before, but I was unsure about the paracord belt loop system at first glance, but it took about 10 seconds of having it on the belt to realize what a great system it was. Unless you want the knife to hang lower, I'd pass on the MB.

i LOVE the molle back as I like my knives to ride pretty low at my side - the top of the handle to ride at or below my belt.

Really hate to carry with the handle above my belt as with a teklok or molle lock attached right to the sheath - just not comfortable.

I have purchased two additional separate RC molle backs I am such a fan and use them on a variety of my fixed blades.

Fan of desert tan too and it looks great on my RC-4. However, for RC3 I went mil because it was the best deal.

I have extra sheaths and carry a few ways. i leave the sheaths in gear, and move the knives around. I love the RC3. very tempting to get the DT, mil, and pumpkin versions.

Dizwolf, you are my kind of guy. Having mutiple sheaths is a great idea.

Wow!! Great stuff here. Thanks for all your input, now I just have to decide..............
