RC3 leather sheath making.

Hi guys. I was thinking of making myself a sheath for my RC3. My wife is a Seamstress so i thought id give this a shot. I have a few questions though.

What kind of leather, how thick and where would you recommend getting it from? Anyone ever made there own RC3 leather sheath? Pictures would be great :D
