RC3 or RC4 for a soldier?

Well, I'm in a quandry.
I'm not sure which to get.
I need it to be ready to go in the field, but I don't want it so big that it's in the way or takes up too much space. I'm not really going to EDC it. I use Benchmade folders for that.
In my B.O.B., I've got a Fallniven A1. I consider it a bit on the large side, but perfect for a hard use tool.
Is the RC3 going to be too small?
Thanks!

RC-4, i have an RC-3 MIL and the handle is just a bit to small for me.

I thought RC-3 and -4 handles had the same dimensions . If you're not going to EDC it, the extra thickness and blade length of the RC-4 might serve you well, I think. You might even find yourself EDC-ing it after all (that's what I do frequently ). It's still nimble enough to do so...

Thanks,

D-R

The RC-4 and RC-3 share the same sized handles...

Anyways, if you're not using it as an EDC knife then you should go with the RC-4.

Yup. Same sized handle...just the blade is a hair longer and the blade stock is thicker.;)

I have both and would take a 4 if I had to own just one. As stated prior, the OAL dimensions of both the 3 & 4 are the exact same size. I think some people feel the 4 has a "bigger" handle due to the thicker stock of the 4 's steel. The handles are the same size other than the thickness aspect.

Convex your RC-4 and it will cut just as good as the RC-3! If you are packing folding knives for cutting, then the RC-4 would be better IMO because of its more robust thickness. Military guys that post on these forums a lot like Rock6 have indicated that 5" blade or less is good for carrying on molle vests and anything bigger takes up too much real estate. The kydex sheath of the RC-4 is another reason to consider the RC-4. I think it is more a bit more robust to bangs and heavy duty use than the molded ones.

If I already had a folder in my pocket, I'd want the 4.

I doubt you'll find it too big in comparison to the 3 for regular carry.

Thank you for your service by the way!

Since you carry a folder I would go for the 4. The three is most likely similar to some of your folders anyhow.

When I go into deep woods hunting I take the 4, my Benchmade Mini-barrage and the Leatherman XTi.

Aside from needing a chopper... My RC-4 + Benchmade 940 pretty much has me covered for everything...

From what I know about RAT knives, which isn't much yet. I'd go with the Rc4. Seem like it would suit your uses better.
