Rc3 vs Izula for companion

Hey guys,

Would like to here your opinions on my companion buy to go with my RC6.
We are talking RC3 vs Izula.
I have no experience with either and but like both for different reasons.
My problem with the RC3 is it's larger size. I'm afraid I would feel as if I were carrying 2 full size knives where as the Izula can almost vanish in a small pocket or a piggyback rig (like TexTony uses).

Does the slightly thinner and longer blade of the RC3 (.125 vs .156 according to the web site) make it a better slicer for camp chores such as feathering wood for a fire or other small chores? Is the difference not worth mentioning? I realize the popular answer will be to buy both (which I will sooner or later) but I only carry 2 knives at a time and the 6 will be one of the two.

Me thinks the RC6 will cover 75% of the camp chores and I was sure the 3 would be my next purchase but the carry ease of the Izula is undeniable.

I've always carried a folder with my large blade and wanted to try something different.

So, pros and cons? What do you guys like or dislike in a head to head comparison? For me, the RC3 wins the stand alone blade contest but how about as a companion. It seems to a bit obtrusive in a piggyback setup.

I'm so confused! :confused::D

I would say the Izula , just because piggybacking blades gets heavy and to me the Izula can handle more than it small frame shows.... and add to that your SAK or folder of choice and you should be ok....

:D With the Izula you would be surprised how much that little knife can do, also when your not camping it would probably see more carry tume. So if you're looking for a nice small lightweight fixed blade to accompany a larger one then I would probably go with the Izula.

I do not doubt the toughness of the Izula and I can see carrying it as an EDC.
I was mostly concerned with blade width for finer slicing duties vs carryablility.(Is carryability a word?)

Thanks

If I need finer slicing abilities,I use my SAK ,but I am not that particular.... The RC3 is great but If you tandem a pair of blades you want to have a wide range from one knife to the other (for me anyways)and I think the RC6 & Izula match up great....

I use to do a little bit of whittling with my izula when I was bored, as long as you keep it sharp it should be able to cut just fine.

I'm starting to see things your way. I like the opposite ends of the spectrum theory.
O.K. don't tell anyone I asked, and I hate sounding like a dumb ass, but what does SAK stand for? I'm a gun person and all I can think of is single action knife!
Remember tell no one :D

I agree with Tony. The RC-3 would be more of a stand alone knife. But since your paring up with an RC-6 I would say the Izula...definetly. Sweet little knife that you forget you even have it on. It's truly an EDC, for me atleast.

Once again I agree with TTD  RC6 & Izula.

The RC3 is a great EDC blade. Even though I have a RC4 & Izula on me at the moment:D

Izula here to, especially if it's backup for a bigger blade.

An RC-6 and Izula would just about cover anything!

I would suggest the Izula as well. It's "the little knife that can". It carries easily & I think that you will be surprised at what it can do.

You may want to check out this Izula demonstration video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSrlvqrZQKY

RIGHT ON! From skinning a rabbit to making feathersticks, cutting paracord, opening boxes, even battoning.....this little knife can do it all. Couple it with an RC 6 and you cover most of the cutting/chopping chores possible.

Ill say gett he 3 just because if you somehow lose or render your main blade unusable then you still have more capabilities, personally i EDC an older ontario version and i find i to be very light, while longer th rats are also thinner so im guessing they weigh in ver close to each other, i also just think aving a full size handle is better. whichever you choose youll be happy.

RC-3 is perfect if you're taking one knife for EDC stuff, but if you're packing a '6 I'd definately go with the Izula.

I'd say go with the RC-3. Its a better knife overall than the Izula. The Izula is great, but what makes it so is it is so damn convenient. At $50, you are going to end up buying the Izula down the road anyway so it can ride in your front pocket. The RC-3 is a more serious knife with a great handle. No wonder it was the RatPack choice blade. I think it pairs up quite nicely with the RC6. Why not go serations on the RC-3 and plain on the RC-6 - there you go - different functions!!

Since I'm outnumbered on the votes....I'm posting pics!
