I got one of the RC4 models, with the white coating, and green handle. http://www.ratcutlery.com/rc-4.htm, but the desert tan one, in a trade at a local shop on Saturday. I really like it, but my paws are too big :( (a recurring theme). I had had a SWAT RC3 a couple years ago, and the handle was just right. Whats the next size up, handle wise? I'm going to try a sq knot lanyard for now.

The RC-4 is the same handle as the RC-3 so your hand must have grown?

What has the Ontario RAT 3 got to do with what you posted? You said you had an RC3 and then got an RC4 and you liked the handle on the RC3 but not on the RC4. They are both the same handle. So, I'm confused what you're even talking about.

I like the RC design, and I am interested in purchasing the next bigger size in the RC line. Is that an RC5? RC6? :)

I would also like to speak with you through email, at your convenience. Thank you.

I also have large hands. (XXL glove size)

The RC6 fits my hands better than any knife I have ever tried.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the RC5 has the same length grip as the 6 but slightly thicker because the tang is thicker.

Drop me an email at jeff@ratcutlery.com

I apologize for sounding confused but I was simply trying to answer your original post and it didn't make any sense to me.

RC3 and RC4 handles are the same. RC5 and RC6 handles are the same.

Jeff,

I have to disagree.

My first RC was the RC-4, and it just felt small in my hand.

A few weeks later, I had a RC-3 in my hand and it felt perfect despite being thinner.

There is definitely something to the thickness.

On the other hand-I can't tell the difference between my RC-5 & 6 handles.

Can't wait to get my hands on the RC-4, the wait is excruciating, two weeks now ...

But we're talking about length here. As far as length.. the 4 and 3 are the same.

Yeah... The RC-3 and RC-4 have the same handle lengths, maybe the blade length on the RC-4 is just making you think the handle is shorter.

Hmmmm, maybe not the thickness, but the balance? For some reason, the 3 is just more comfortable in my paws. You are right though, the original post was about length!

I do think the RC4 handles are a bit thin. I got used to it, but if I ever had the chance to get some custom grips, assuming they didn't cost a ton, I'd go for them. The RC6 does have a bigger handle and I think would be an amazing knife, may be worth a shot.

I like the RC-3/4 handles. They are identical in every way except for the thickness. I know, I've laid them on top of one anther for a shot in another post.

What I can say is this. I have a lot of knives that have thicker scales and when you hold them its like sitting in one of those big soft fluffy couches. It seems great, but when you sit your butt on that fluffy couch for 3 hr, pretty soon you back is all out of wack. Now, if you sit in the stiff chair in the corner, it don't feel like heaven when you sit down but 3 h later your back isn't screaming bloody hell.

The RC-4 handle is like that. When you grab hold of it, it doesn't feel like a soft comfy couch. It feels like the stiff chair in the corner. After using the RC-4 for some hard work - that is when the comfort and ergonomics ring true. Since it would seem a lot of people make decisions on knife ergonomics by holding it for 30 s then this is probably why it gets a bad rap. Thats just my opinion, however, I have a few comfy couch handles that follow suit with the aching hand after using them. I've grown really weary of handles that sport aggressive contours - they feel good at first and bad later.

Makes sense. Really grippy handles may be good when you pick up the knife, but with use it could tear up your handle. Your analogy is very good.

Regardless of the RC4 handle thickness, I love the knife. :D

A thicker knife feels smaller in the hand than a thinner knife with the same handle ? What are you guys smoking? :D
