by stupidity, fatigue and maybe a bit of drunkenness. Demoed half of my friend's cabin today in Northern Idaho, and have most of the framing done on the new addition. At the end of the day we cracked a few brews and stood around a big 2x4 scrap pile, lit with a mostly-empty can of liquid nails. I attempted to batton a log for about 5 minutes and got nowhere. Upon closer inspection (gimme a break, it was dark outside) I noticed I was attempting to batton through a framing nail. I actually made most of the way through the nail itself and my coworkers were impressed as hell the knife hadn't snapped in half. Rolled about 3/16ths of an inch of the edge pretty bad. Sat down for an hour with the arkansas stones and it looks (and cuts) almost new again. Rock on, RAT. Jeff, you should see my HEST, it rivals your instructor's RC3. As soon as I can get a new camera (again... brand new one died after two weeks of use) I'll take a few pictures.

No pics of the destruction? The blade? The nail?

The RC-5 is a tank. Glad it's up and in working shape again.

Good to hear it held up reasonably well for you.

Ouch, That is a terrible feeling; i know because the other day i was gutting out a flemish giant rabbit with my brkt northstar. I got a little excited and went to chop the legs off as i would do with my RC6 or 3 (place the blade atop the bone and baton through. Well after i finshed i looked down and :O my edge was bent right over......it was pretty mangled.
It took alot of stroken to get those dings out.
what ive learnt

RC=tanks
Bark River Mini norhtstar= finesse

You gotta love the RC-5, that thing is a monster! It's my favorite RAT out of the bunch. Next time try to get some pics of the handy knife work.

And that's when we will not honor our warranty. What idiocy.

Oh, I caught the joke and remember that guy well! :D

The scary thing is I bet you could take down a chimney with a 5 or 6 and still put a shaving sharp edge back on them.

The RC 5 is indeed a tank. Although abusing any knife isn't right.

ETA - Not bashing you, just stating that. :o

I figured you did bossman !!!
I did to and that's what made me laugh.....
The RC5 pass around started about the time that dude did that I even took a picture when I had the pass around knife just for Jeff, not sure many people got it... no bricks were harmed during the picture. :p

No pictures unfortunately, like I said my brand new 500 dollar camera died and they won't honor the warranty :( I have a job now though, making decent money so a D60 and possibly a G11 are in the works...
