by stupidity, fatigue and maybe a bit of drunkenness. Demoed half of my friend's cabin today in Northern Idaho, and have most of the framing done on the new addition. At the end of the day we cracked a few brews and stood around a big 2x4 scrap pile, lit with a mostly-empty can of liquid nails. I attempted to batton a log for about 5 minutes and got nowhere. Upon closer inspection (gimme a break, it was dark outside) I noticed I was attempting to batton through a framing nail. I actually made most of the way through the nail itself and my coworkers were impressed as hell the knife hadn't snapped in half. Rolled about 3/16ths of an inch of the edge pretty bad. Sat down for an hour with the arkansas stones and it looks (and cuts) almost new again. Rock on, RAT. Jeff, you should see my HEST, it rivals your instructor's RC3. As soon as I can get a new camera (again... brand new one died after two weeks of use) I'll take a few pictures.
