Got my RC-5 and love it, out in the bush with a friend last week and he can't believe how sharp and tough the knife is.

Question, I was having problem with the 2 snaps at the retaining straps. The lower one seem to be very hard to release. After looking at it for a bit, I notice the 2 button snaps have different prints on them. The upper one said" The Dot Pull" the lower one said" one way pull ". Is there special way to release the snaps? or is the snap defective?

I hope its not defective....

Thanks for the help

I got my RC 5 about a week ago and had the same issue. I don't believe it's a defect. Unsure what the exact difference between the two snaps is, but the lower one has very slightly gotten easier to use. I don't know if I'm breaking it in, or if it's breaking me in.

most new things are slightly stiff until worn in. the RC 3/6 sheaths are sharp draws at first, and work their way into a nice, smooth, firm pull.

Both snaps on mine read" one way pull ".I like the way they work, not going to be bumped open, retaining straps need to retain.Great knife by the way:thumbup:

Are you guys talking about the new style nylon sheaths? If so I'd love to see a pic of one.

Both the poppers on mine read "pull one way ", but they were both seriously tight, when new, realy stupidly hard to do up, so tight in fact that I moded the sheath with some elastic cord so I don't have to do the poppers all the time, only when I am going to move, round camp I slip the cord over the top

Give it a go

(saving up my pennies for a kydex sheath....)

I'll am thinking the printing on the button snaps must have some kind of meaning or purpose though....Do I just don't know how to use it? Jeff? any insight?

Here are some pics, sorry, a little big

My RC-5 has the Eagle sheath and both the buttons say 'Pull The Dot'. I haven't had any trouble with them at all. They are tight but that's good in my book.

the eagle sheath has a felt liner that compresses the blade and repvents it from coming out unless you firmly grip and tug. I don't even use the buttons really, I like it that way.

Those snaps are meant to hold tight on 3 sides and release with minimal pressure on the side where the dot is.

All of those sheaths were made by Eagle. The difference is snaps reflects a different source of supply of parts (vendors) they used to come up with enough to build the sheaths. Both snaps should operate correctly. Personnaly I hate pull the dot or pull one way snaps. They are way too aggravating to use. But these were on the original batch we bought from Eagle before we spec'd the new batch without them. If they continue to give you trouble and don't wear and become a little easier to operate contact me and when I get the new sheaths from another vendor in October I can replace yours. Mike
