Hey guys,

This is my first post so forgiove me if I ramble on a little. I got my first RAT from my wife for our 10th anniversary (April 19th). I had told her about the RC6 so she knew I was wanting one.

I had been interested in getting a new all purpose fixed blade (truck knife) for a few months and stumbled across the RAT name while perusing the arfcom website.

I have always liked a 6-7" blade for an all purpose knife. I love the smaller blades too but not for a truck knife. I had carried a USMC Kabar for the last 29 years (bought it when I was 15) and it has been everywhere with me......until now.

The RC6 is the best fixed blade I've ever owned. Quality is evident the second you take it out of the package. I have very large hands and the handle is perfect for me. The knife is razor sharp and it's good looking to boot. I can't wait to use it.

The sheath is interesting and I have fun trying out different ways to configure it. I saw someone show a harness set up with paracord. It looked very handy. I believe he was fishing in the photo. The sheath works quite well for my truck. I can slide it between the bottom of the seat and the hump in the center of the floor just like I did with the Kabar. I will get a different sheath (drop down) for use in the woods. Probably the spec ops or maybe I can be patient and wait for the RAT offering when it becomes available. One similar to the RC5 sheath would be perfect.

I will be giving the Kabar to my nephew so it will continue serving our family. I think he's old enough to realize how much it means to me. It's hard letting go of something after that long even if you know you've found a better answer to the question. I know my nephew will get good use out of it.

And how about a big hand for the wife. This gift was a total surprise. She did all the research and purchasing without my knowledge and kept me from seeing it while we were on our vacation until the time was right. Oh yeah, she also told that we were not getting each other anything for our anniversary. Never believe women when they say this. It's total bullshit! Knowing this in advance, I purchased a ring before the trip to avoid any conflicts. I can be sneeky too :D

It wouldn't be right if I didn't mention the guys at knivesshipfree.com. My wife said they were very helpful and she recieved the knife in just a couple of days. Thanks.

This is a great site. The mods and members here are helpful and curtious. I'm not a knife expert and my friends, while being avid hunters and outdoorsmen, are not much into blades (they have an anything will do attitude with knives) so this is a great place to read and get informed. Thanks for all your help.

Matt

PS

My wife now seems to think we should both get an RC3 for everyday carry and pink Izulas for the girls. Where did I find this chick?!

Welcome to the RAT pack , Derrick at knivesshipfree is a great guy to deal with, and I think your wife/girls would enjoy a pink Izula. You could even put a purple paracord handle wrap on it. I gave my twin sister a OD green Izula and she enjoys it.

Oh and congrats on the 10 years of marriage.

Welcome to the RAT pack. My first RAT knife was the RC6 as well. A great knife froma great company made up of great folks. Derrick at KSF is a great guy to deal with as well.

Congratulations, for joining the RAT Pack and for such an exceptional wife! A good case of Rat fever for the whole family is just what the doctor ordered.

Welcome. I'm not officially a RAT yet, seeing as how I haven't had the funding for one, but I'm planning on getting a 4 and Izula for me as well as a pink Izula for my Cynthia. Like you, I'm fortunate to have a girl who supports my bad habits. Good on ya for giving the Ka-Bar to your nephew.

Just make sure when you get one to use them so you can really appreciate them. :D I know I wasn't impressed by the blade coatings that RAT uses until I beat the crap out of an Izula and couldn't find a scratch.

Just because you don't own a RAT doesn't mean you aren't in the pack.

Oh, and congrats on the RC 6 and the marriage!!

Welcome Bushmattster, that's a great story and you have a great wife, Your gonna love the RC3 for everyday carry. But what's not to love about any RAT.

Double congrats buddy! I'm relatively new to the RAT subforum too but these guys are a great bunch. You're right, there is a lot of info to be had here. I just finished going through all 61 pages of threads, picking and choosing which to read based on thread title.
I too was looking around for a few fixed blades. I got a Fallkniven F1 and a Blind Horse Small Tiger Knapp last year and was looking at getting something bigger. I ordered the RC-6 2 weeks ago from Knives Ship Free and as soon as I had it in hand ordered the RC-4 and Izula, which I just got this week. They are awesome knives for sure and I can't wait to put them through their paces.

Welcome and hope you stick around.

All the best!
