The RC6 and all the other RAT knives besides the RC4 and RC5 come with molded plastic sheaths right? Was wondering if there where any kydex sheaths for the RC6 and how much they go for? Would they have the same backing as the RC4's?

I have never owned a sheath in kydex. Is it allot better than the molded plastic sheaths? Why?

Kydex is stronger in most cases than injection molded plastic and IMO it looks a lot better too.

I have an RC-6 sheath that Shotgunner11 made and so far I really like it. Haven't used it much, but I think I'll like it over an injection molded option.

Would the pouch made to snap over the RC-5 and RC-6 sheaths, the one that holds the survival tin, fit on an RC-3 with MOLLEback?

Mind posting a pic?

No problem. It's a pancake style. He does fold-over style also but I really like using paracord belt loops and all the mounting options the holes offer.

I recently made this one that could be the same for the 6 or 10. I could make it to fit the molle back and pouch.

yup.. 16 cts a piece..

the rivets will also take 2 molleloks on the front to hold one of the bigger maxpedition pouches. Beside those other attechement points were needed to house 2 loops for lightsticks.
With everything mounted and the lightsticks installed this sheath looks like a spaceship :)

I tried different configurataions for the eyelets, but I tend to stick to this as it is very versatile and molle-teklok compatible, and allows for small adjustments.

Nice looking sheaths above, really. Both materials have their strong points. Kydex lends itself to less expenisve small number production becuase the tooling costs is cheap. While it has several other positive attributes it fails at exptreme low temperatures (cracks and breaks). That is one reason the military shies away from Kydex a lot.
The injection molded polyethylene doesn't fail at extremes but the tooling costs run into many thousands of dollars for just a simple sheath like the RC3 or RC6. o you aren't going to do a lot of small number variations of sheaths with this method. Again, This does not cover all the pluses and minuses but it figures into things for any manufacturer.

Forgot about the extreme cold thing. Thanks, Mike. Whenever you pop in, it's always informative.:D

Hey Mike,

Wasn’t there something posted here and on the RAT website a while back that the molded sheaths would be available in other colors like black, foliage, etc? Or has that changed?
