My first post here and I thought I'd start with some action pics. This knife really impresses me. Stays sharp and is extremely tough. I thought we were going to have a problem this weekend after some batoning but al is good.

Ha ha that's an awesome pic! Did you make it all the way through the log? Thanks for sharing.

When I saw it was that bent I pulled it out and then went back through it. I didn't want to snap it in half.

that knife looks extremely bent in the first two pics

How did you manage to wreck the knife that much? Just by batoning?

WOW i'm impressed! Cold temps make steel more brittle, i'm surprised it didn't break. Just goes to show you what a great product RAT makes.

Then again from what I have read and heard even if it did, you could send it in with these pictures and they'd still replace it.

Imressive, I've never tried it with mine. The only use mine sees is some field dressing when I dont have the rc4 or rc3.

Its all from batoning. The wood was pretty hard I guess. I don't recall striking the knife any harder than I would with smaller less robust knives. Overall, because of the above I'm not a big fan of batoning but when it is this wet and snowy I will do it. I just try not to abuse the knife. Their heat treat must be short of perfect.

Whoa, amazing pics! The boys & girls at Rowen know their heat treat, that's for sure

Thanks for sharing,

Of course they sell axes around here. I've had a few accidents with hatchets so they scare the hell out of me. Regardless, I usually don't baton. I just thought it was amazing how the knife straightened up. After I cleaned it up when I got home it looks almost new.

Why would you think the knife is wrecked?

I'm not at all surprised that it came back true, in fact I'd expect it to. Nice pics!

EDIT: That said, I would have aborted that mission. That is a pretty extreme bend as all the pressure seems to be focused on a small portion of the blade toward the tip.

Actually, I didn't realize it just sprung back to shape after pulling it out of the wood. I thought it was BENT back straight.

The little video from ratcutlery.com opened my eyes:

Impressive.
