Rc_4

would the Rc-4 be suitable for fighting?

Is this a serious question ..? I think the "tactical no gun killer forum " is over there >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

If it is.. Then no, (Hummmmmmm)

Because if you have to ask.... then you will not understand the answer

How thick is the paper bag you have to get out of..? :jerkit::jerkit:

ha ha funny, yes its serious.... Ive studied several martial arts and am now begining Israeli knife fighting and am looking for a no BS fighter... got about 250$ to go on this knife... and Im just wanting some varing opinions before I purchase... any other suggestions are welcomed.

First of all if you are doing some kind of israeli knife fighting lesson, you will learn that any knife is a good one, but RCs are not designed fighting knife, they are pretty thick and don't have a sharpened spine. A no bs fighter is a thin double edge with a good grip to it. I personally think that knife fighting is overrated and fighting altogether is not a way to go, what's important is self defense, to now how to protect and get out of harms way. I am in no way a supporter of fights even more knife fights.

Doubled edged blades are not supported by the knife training Im starting, more out to cut yourself. AND I am not condoning fighting (except for in a ring) or knife fighting. I teach Muay Thai and open hand techniques (self defense) to people who aspire to fight within the sport and to those who just want to learn. Being that Im a knife collector I wanted to learn to use the tool I have around the house the most. I just wanted some opinions but it seems that I cant really get any thoughts without someone coming in and saying something about... Training with a martial artist isnt like fighting in the street (ah really) or fighting isnt the answer or someone to make fun..... I thought this was a more serious forum but goes to show, I guess I need to be a little more specific on what i want to discuss and what not

Wow this is a rough crowd however I got to say those are some witty answers ;)

Depending on if the blade is long enough, an RC3 may be better. I think the RC4 may be a bit thick and heavy for a fighting knife.

I think its designed more as a bushcraft / field knife.

So, RC3 or HEST would be my choice for fighting.

Then again, I guess whatever knife you have is a good one in a last resort situation!

in my experiance from fights that invoved knives,i was almost always on the wrong end thank god i can run:D, something that is no longer then seven inches and has a thin blade some thing that has a curve to it gives more of a cutting edge i have noticed in most fight stabbing is not the most common way of attack but cutting and slashing is. but thats just what i noticed from my fighing as a kid i have no acctual formal training sorry.
(the Hissatsu by CRKT is one i think would work well and i have heard lots of good things about the Applegate-Fairbairn but the spine is sharp:/)

Yes the Hissatsu would be the way to go it's a single purpose knife (killing).
It's not like I have two of them or anything!
or try an RC-6 at the very least you'll get hooked on RATs!

RAT PACK #91

The RC6 would be a better choice for the Israeli training. Many of their techniques were designed with the USMC Ka-Bar in mind. The RC6 is actualy an improvement over that design.

The RC4 would however be serviceable as a defense knife with no problems at all, especoialy if you convexed the edge as I have done.

Even the RC5 would make a serviceable fighter in a combat situation though the weight would make it a bit slower unless you trained with it extensively.

Which you choose would depend on whether you are training mainly to draw from concealment (in which case the RC4 using IWB carry would be great) or accesing the knife from a more conventional belt carry (where the RC6 would offer the advantage.

The RC4 would also offer some advantage in close interval, reverse grip techniques, though again the RC6 will also work, and the extra blade length does give some advantage.

The handle design of the RC6 DOES provide a considerably stronger grip. Which offers a considerable advantage in real world combative applications.
