Okay, I was searching spydies on ebay as usual and found this advertisement...Item number: 2217621655 ...now why would a spydie of this nature need any help in being sold? I think someone should tell ebay about what the seller did in this auction. What do you all think?

They are not the only one doing this. There was a thread a few weeks ago for a different seller using similar backgrounds in his pictures.

What knife,I didn't see any knife.
Sold for 295.00?I had bought one for 49.95 with the box.

Is there anything wrong with the ad? That depends on how easily a person is offended by the use of skin to advertise products. I think that Spydercos stand on there own quite well and don't need a distraction in the background. In this case, I am not really impressed with the photo. I have seen it done better by others.

Thanks for the thread. The chick is nicely built. The guy needs to auction some small-of-the-back holsters though.:D

I don't have a problem with it. Wouldn't auction something that way (of course I don't have a willing model either) due to possible ticking off of "prudish" bidders.

edited to add:

From a search of past items, it appears that they are airbrushing out a tatoo. Or it's a temp. :p

Much better Dialex. I think that what turned me off of the first one was the faded looking tatoo. If you are going to do it, do it with class.

I would have been more impressed if Tim had not Photoshopped the knives into pictures grabbed off of the net. I don't think many of those would make it into a print magazine, at least not a general interest knife mag. I think a more subdued Victoria's Secret approach would work a little better. Sometimes the hint of something, or something left to the imagination is a better way to go. The other thing to consider, is what is being sold. Does the ad point to the product or relate to the product. Look at some of the Pirelli Catalogs for examples of integrating auto tires and models.

Spyderwa,

Tim's avatar always had wondering what it had to do with his knifemaking but now I see (sort of). Tacbabes doesn't seem like too bad a concept but then I'm old, jaded, and have seen just about everything. I liked the play on words more than anything (where do I sign up for some Revealex undies....er sheaths for my wife's knives and a seBUNza anyway???) Advertising moguls know that sex sells. The theme is prevalent in much of our prudent American society and openly pursued in European advertising. So much so that the indignant Moral Major-minority will find sexual innuendos in even Disney cartoons and movies.

But back to the subject at hand .... if you check out page 45 of the Spydie Story, back in the less liberal days when Spydies were intro'd, you will find a Delica clipped to the young lady's brassiere. Once again, Sal is ahead of his time with innovative knife advertising!:) And let us not leave out the initial kinky offerings from Sia the joyful barefoot girl from Prague. Her work has progressed very well BTW. Maybe you could build an archive of old Spyerco ads with Spyderco's help????

Jeez Dennis, do we really need those pics in here? Some of us would rather that stuff be left in W&C.

You're right. I didn't think about that.

I added a line warning people that it has mature content. My apologies.

I'd like to incorporate some of the old ads onto the website. Before that I want to add more pictures of the rare Spydercos along with some more group shots. It is a work in progress. On top of that I need to find a job. I went back to school for a year after the company that I worked for died, and now I need to figure out how to pay for all the new Spydercos that I want, . . . . and my son's college tuition, car payments, etc.

I know the feeling. I'm back at Embry-Riddle Areonautical again and job hunting as well. The javalings will soon both be in high school and I've cut back to the main piece only on my Collector's Club number.

If there's any thing I can do to help on the site, drop me a line...

Thanks Java, It is just a matter of pounding the pavement and not getting depressed and frustrated. It is hard to restart into the job-market because one often has to restart the pay scale. I am fortunate to have a wife who is both understanding, and has a good job, (and tolerates my collecting). Thanks.
