I'd say you'll have to sand off the black, might get away with using an art gum or pencil eraser, but one way to color aluminum is super simple. Take 2 table spoons of lye and mix in 1 quart of cold water. Dip the item in this solution for one to two minutes and then dip into a household dye mixed as reccomended by manufacturer. The longer it's in the dye the darker it gets. Then rinse in cold water.
