I'm thinking of disassembling my new Bench Made 812 (Mini AFCK, Liner lock) to drill and tap clip holes on the other side. The owner's manual says not to disassemble them and warns that you'll be charged $20 plus parts for factory reassembly.

Is there anything about disassembling/reassembling benchmade knives I should know?

You should be fine, go ahead and do it. I've done it many times, not exclusive to Benchmades. You just need to be patient for your first try.

Steve,
You might have to heat the screw in case they have locktite on them, so that they will release and not pull threads out. The only one I worked with did not have locktite tho.

The AFCK is very simple, and should give you no trouble. Just don't lose the washers.

Hopefully, your mini AFCK is one of the newer models with threadserts and you won't have to worry about stripping screws in G10. Still can't believe BM and other companies made them that way.

A little tip when re-assembling: aligning the blade, washers, and pivot hole is tricky. All you have to do is to take a small-diameter screwdriver or torx driver and insert it in the hole that the pivot pin goes through just before inserting it, and roll the driver around as to align all parts evenly. This way, you won't hit any snags when re-inserting the pin. It works!
