I picked up a red and a blue 527 Treasury a while ago that are like new / un-used. Recently, one of the scales on the red one fell off. I thought of sending it back to Buck, and still may, but if I can just re-glue it back on, I may do that.
A quick internet search said that I should use slow setting epoxy. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to do it without getting the epoxy all over the brass liner and scale to the point where it has to be totally re-sanded and polished, since the knife & scale are currently in like new condition.
There actually appears to be very little residual glue left over, as if they didn't use much originally (maybe that's why it fell off). Would a small amount of glue down the center portion of the scale (so it doesn't squeeze out the edges when clamped) hold it?
This definitely isn't one of my best knives, but on the other hand I don't want to screw it up, being near mint. I'm not really experienced at doing this kind of repair, and if it is too involved, I may just send it back and get it done correctly. I've sent some in before for other reasons, and they come back looking like new. (I do have a vintage 103 that needs spa treatment, so I could just send both in, but I heard they are pretty backlogged right now). Any info. would be appreciated.
