So , how many of you have re-gifted a knife that you didn't deem worthy of your collection/accumulation?

I've given away three knives so far this year, and the 'white elephant' for the Christmas party will be another. I've liked all three in some manner, so that makes it a little more meaningful to part with.

ive given away upwards of 15 knives this year. I only need a handful or two of knives at once, and if I have a buddy or a coworker who expresses an interest in knives, I will gladly sacrifice one of my blades to try and bring the art, and passion of cutlery into someone elses lives.

I've given away three knives so far this year. Not because they weren't "worthy" but more because I have bought more than I need and when I discover a friend or colleague who likes or uses knives but doesn't have a good one, then I don't mind spreading the word by giving them a decent one to use.

Edit: None of these were a re-gift, where I passed on a knife that I received as a gift. Just outright gifts of knives I bought but never used.

Every knife I've been gifted is a keeper, even the inexpensive gas station knives. I wouldn't regift a gift. I've given a few tactical pens, folders, and fixed blades. Specifically purchased as gifts for folks.

Regift? No.

I have on several occasions bought knives that were a good deal or that I like but would not carry or use...and given those away some time later. I didn't necessarily buy them for anyone in particular, but thought they would probably make good gifts or giveaways down the line.

I don't regift, but if I get some knives thrown in a trade or purchase I don't really need I'll give them away to coworkers and friends..

This has been a knife Xmas for me this year- got 2 of my friends mini-grips, one already has an one will be receied very well (come monday, its still on route to her) got my other friend a Enlan EL-01, gave him the choice between that and a Byrd hawkbill (the Byrd is what I picked out for him but I gave him the choice and he went for the Enlan). Also giving my father-in-law 3 knives come next Saturday- a custom scale'd UKPK made from some local grown splated maple, a Boker Exkaliber (unmodified as a user incase he won't carry my custom work) and a rapala fish-n-knife to match the one of my fathers I just restored and had engraved.

Knives I don't want or need typically just get thrown in drawer. I don't re-gift them exactly, but if someone sees something in a drawer that they want and I don't, I will give it to them.

I have not really re-gifted a knife, but I have thought about it. I do tend to sell knives that I do not care for, but most of those knives come from trade. I am at the point of not putting knives on my gift list unless I am given a large enough price range to put some really good production knives on.

Sounds like not many folks would give away a gift.I was curious because people who know you are into knives will try to get you one.If said person knows nothing about quality, they could make a bad purchase.I know it's the thought that counts.Just wondering what ya'll did with them.

I won't give away a gift knife, although I have only one, and that one I actually hinted that I'd like. Boy, was I wrong. Good blade-steel, but the knife is a short, thick brick and I've never carried it.
I've given away quite a few knives to young LEO's and deployed military. Many given to relatives, male and female. Several to friends. I have given away knives indiscriminately before, but I don't intend to do that again. Now, I need a person or a purpose; not just chance.

I don't give away anything someone has given me as a gift (and being a preacher since 1979, I've collected a whole lot of things that people have given me). Whatever it is is part of them and I keep it as part of our "connection". In fact, if I'm giving something to someone that's particularly close to me, I'll use it first just enough to leave an "imprint" on it before I give it to them. Then, when they carry it, use it, take it with them to another part of the world, whatever... part of me is there as well because something that was important to me is now in their possession.

Knives and fountain pens are the things that I do that with for the most part. Good quality models of both of those items have a longer life expectancy than the original owners so they can literally "last a lifetime" or more.

Dale, that is the point. I was trying to make to some extent. I garbled it up but, you hit the nail on the head.
