I decided that I didn't want the Kraton (rubber) handle on my CS Trailmaster Bowie

So, I cut it away:

I replaced the issue rubber bumper with some Ebony I had, epoxied & pinned in place.

The sheath is also CS, from a Laredo Bowie that went walkabout several years ago.

It was a very satisfying project, for me.

I started off thinking "Noooooo!!!!!", but when I scrolled to the final picture my attitude changed.
Looks good!

wow that looks great! How did drilling through the hardened steel for the pins go?!

I had N.P. installing the pins - the hardest part was sanding the Ebony perfectly smooth, before finishing.

I left the pins a bit proud, to afford a decent purchase if used under wet conditions - which I tested for after the handle was done, via sticking the blade tip into a block of dried pine and slathering it with mayonnaise for withdrawal from the block.

Messy, but an effective "proof of purchase"...... ;)

Yup. Look at the choil area of the ricasso in both pics. Different knives indeed

Also, one grip has little domes and the other has diamond checkering (so the OP can't claim he modified the choil)

Okay supersleuths - I give up !

I had already started to install the ebony, before I realized I forgot to take a pic of the cutaway.

Or

Does anyone think the last/finished pic is BS, too ?

Or

Get up enough nerve to try a rehandle yourself.........( SHEESH )

I think what's being pointed out is the choil seems to have gotten smaller from the first pic to the second, as if metal was added when you removed the handle.
