Re-handling a Buck 105?

Long, long time lurker here, and a bit of a 105 fan (there are seven in my small collection).

Over the years I’ve seen more than one “classic” Buck that has either been made at the factory with an alternative handle material, limited runs, Custom Shop, etc. I’ve also seen what appears to be “one off” Bucks that were factory made by Custom Shop employees, these seem to have been experiments or personal projects, knives built with handle materials not typically offered by the Shop.

I have also seen Bucks that have had handles replaced, customized, and that is really more of what I’m asking about. Who is currently doing that sort of work? More accurately, who is doing a good job of it? I’m not trying to fake a knife, but I would want at least factory level work, if not better.

I have several 105’s with D2 blades, just seem to have acquired extras somehow (shhh, don’t tell SWMBO). I was thinking of having one or two customized with nice wood or some giraffe bone. When that sort of thing is done, is the pommel recycled? Replaced? Upgraded as well? I’m thinking possibly brass here, both pommel and guard, but factory style or close to it.

I’m not sure if I’ve been entirely clear, but I’m certainly in the hunt and figure you folks would know better than my poor Google-fu skills seems to have uncovered.

Any help gents?

Leroy Remer, a former Buck Knives Custom Shop manager, has done work for me.
He was there when it was really was a custom shop and you ordered a knife the way you wanted it.
He lives and works in Oklahoma now and does wonderful work.
His shop is Triple-R-Knives triplerknives.com.
I don't have a 105 but I do have this 118 and 124 that he re-handled.

I might have to go this route to get that stacked leather 105...
And thanks for the reminder TAH TAH - I've got to put a picture of my old one back in that thread...and add a new one

Thank you all, I appreciate the help. I spent a very pleasant half hour or so on the phone this morning, discussing this project with Leroy Remer. We shot the breeze about knives, fishing, and hunting, plus traded notes on escaping California, lol! I left there 15 years ago. Stayed there far longer then my original plan due to family and work obligations, but I’ve never looked back.

Anyway, I’m sending him one of my 105 Pathfinders with a D2 blade, plus a beautiful piece of stabilized burl madrone. Little bit of a wait, but that is perfectly fine by me. I already own two different custom sheaths to fit a 105, so when it gets back I will post pics of it wearing both.

I suppose I should ask to join the 105 club……

Glad to hear that you've contacted him. You will be thrilled with your knife when you get it back. I had an enjoyable phone visit with him earlier this afternoon. He makes you feel like talking to you is the only thing he has to do. He is a wonderful person.
