i'm a newbie at stripping blades. the only ones i've ever stripped are my stamped Beckers. (BK2 and BK9). and just like everyone else who's been following the SHOT thread, i'm digging the 16 big time. like how it looks, but may strip it anyway, just because.

Sooooooo, if you strip a laser-etched coated blade, do you lose the logo? It looks like it's laser-etched AFTER being coated to have lines so crisp (although that's just a guess on my part), so i'm wondering if it makes it into the metal very far and will still be there, or will it disappear when you strip the coating off?

thanks!

You would lose the logo, happened to my Esee4, however you could always acid etch it before stripping.

oh. now i have to learn how to acid etch. i just learned how to gun blue/bleach etch. same kind of easy?

Get echant from radio shack. Spray paint the edge of the knife with caliper paint. Soak the blade in the echant, let sit for like a day. Pull out and strip the paint and coating.

I'm looking forward to doing this with the BK knives!!! I think it looks so freakin awesome!!!

Wow I have a lot to learn! I think I might have liked the old way better lol

Recently saw on another forum were a guy etched his blade with just a few drops on the laser etched areas (one side at a time, obviously). He just put some tape over the edge to protect it. This is an ESEE but the new coatings seem very simliar.

Also, what exactly is the "etchant" called? I'm surprised that you'd find it at Radio Shack.

Here is my ESEE 4 stripped. The logo is fine. I used Klean Strip on it, but I can't imagine any stripper removing the laser etching.

actually the etching as such, goes all the way through the knife :)

So will they new ones be considered Gen 1 on tweeners and machax, gen 2 on the BK 5-7-9, and Gen 3 for the bk2?
