For me the one year experiment of staying with one just knife is over.
My choice was a Case Peanut, with yellow handles, and CV blades.

I went over six months, the hard way.
Mother Nature has not been kind this year to many areas of the country, including mine.
The sentimental Peanut I was carrying, was lost dealing with tornadoes.
Staying true to the experiment, I grabbed another Peanut, yellow handle, CV blade with even more sentimental attachment than the first.

Mother Nature again was unkind, and the situation was more serious, with this tornado and I lost Peanut number 2.
I cannot explain the sentiment I had with these.

Staying true to the experiment, I snagged yet another Peanut, yellow handle, with CV blades.
This one had the most sentimental value. Along with the Case Slimline Trapper with the same date code, and the Case Hard Arkansas stone that measures
2 7/8" that were presented to me, by the same person, at the same time.

This person died not too long ago, and losing any of these 3 items would really hurt.

I gave all 3 items away to a lady Marine.
Some know the whole story, still the short version is, our paths crossed, and her story of lost Peanut, Trapper and stone mirrored mine.

I have nobody, I am no big deal, never wanted to be, and still do not want to be.
She has family, and in the big scheme of things, the Universe is still going to do what it did before I showed up, and will when I am dead.

I grew up with Peanuts and have gone a year using them for EDC, just as I have the Slimline Trapper, and other traditional knives.

So this Experiment was not really an experiment for me, just a opportunity to pass forward by actually doing what I have before with one knife to others.
Lead by example if you will.

The persons that gave me all 3 knives understand, especially the one that most recently passed and gave me those 3 items the lady Marine now has.

As I said others know more about this event with the lady Marine, and others that day, that had lost all, or most, or sentimental items.
There is a difference in "needs" and "wants" and there was true "need" that day , for what transpired.

I drove all the way home , without a knife in my pocket or in my truck.
Upon getting home, I wondered if I still had a SAK Classic in a shaving kit, I rarely get into.
It just was not important to look that night.
When I decided to check, it was there, and I stuck that in my pocket.
I just felt funny not having a knife in my pocket.
The knife could use a touch up, still I have not, just not a big deal, and I'll get around to it, eventually, maybe.

Over six months with the same knife...still the experiment is over for me.

Sir,

I disagree with you.
The measure of a man is by the honor and grace in his life, and how he lives that.
You clearly walk the Path of Greatness.

Well said Neeman,
and well done Steve, you went trough some tough times, and the knife has been a big part of your live.

Steve,

Send me an email via clicking on my screen name.

Let's see if we can't find you something you might want to throw in your pocket for a bit.

Steve,

You have a unique style of writing, and a rare style of living. I can't speak for all, but my time here has been enriched by your posts. Thanks!

I have been true to the original experiment so far, but I have a couple new knives that are dying for some pocket time. I think I will be quick to follow you.

For me, at least, the crux of the "experiment" was not really about self-denial, although that's a valuable trait. It was about putting into perspective the difference between "needs" and "wants." When someone goes through the tough times you have recently, it makes that distinction all the more vivid when we realize how much most of us have, and how little we truly need.

Your posts have certainly put a point on that perspective, and I thank you for sharing.

Blues - very nice gesture there.

Steve - I don't know you, but I do hope you take Blues up on his offer. You said, "I am no big deal . . . " I don't believe that. It may be that sharing what you've been through for the last year will humble the rest of us, and give us pause. You're right - the universe will keep doing what it's always been doing, good or . . . not so good. We're still blessed to be a part of it. Having the friends in our lives (here & elsewhere) that makes getting through these tough times more tolerable.

Those pleasant times are coming - they always do.

thx - cpr

Quite right. Blues, give me a holler via PM - I wouldn't mind stepping in. Would be an honor.

Steve and I have been in touch.

Something he can carry and use (backed by all the good sentiments included from his supporters in this thread) will be in the mail to him today.

Thank you for the kind comments. I'm a firm believer in what comes around, goes around as I've had my share of kindnesses bestowed upon me. Just a small way of me helping to spread it around some.

+1:thumbup:Honor & Chivalry speak louder than any other traits IMO.You have both sm2.

I appreciate the kinds words.

Elliott and I have communicated, and I am humbled by his generosity, and his words to me.

This is the Traditional sub-forum, therefore lest none of us forget some Traditional values.

Each one - teach one.

To keep it - give it way

My thanks goes out to Elliot for his generosity and my congrats goes out to Steve for getting something special. Please keep us posted on your new knife.

God Bless.

Humbled.

Elliott's package was received today.
Inside I found a Mini-Trapper.

Etched on the blade:

Premier Issue-1999
Queen's Own Club Knife

Tang:
Queen's Own
Titusville,PA

Elliot I hope has a picture, and can share more about this very special knife.

Elliot, and the rest of the members here, I am most humbled and appreciative, thank you.

Steve,

I'm glad the knife arrived safely and that it's a pattern that you like and will enjoy carrying.

Bought the knife back in 1999 when Queen inaugurated a collector's club. (I don't know if the club still exists or not as I never kept up with it.)

I purchased the knife back then because I liked the pattern, the blue jigged bone and the ATS-34 blade steel which was rare back then on a slipjoint.

The closed length is 3.25" and it features a clip and spey blade.

The only image I have is cropped from a larger photo and thus not very clear but at least gives some idea of what the knife looks like. It is a pretty little knife and well made.

I hope it will serve you faithfully in good health and find a home in your pocket.

Well sir,

I sure do like it!

Mini-Trappers just "are" as we say in the South.
These pocket carry real nice, and are still real workhorses.

Well, let us know if it does as well as the previous knives after a few months. (Not that I'd want you to embark on another experiment or anything. ;))

Blues,

I am off to go a good start already.

<the crowd gasps! the boy is using such a knife!>

I may share later about this, just for a teaser...
RC , moon pies, racks of ribs, 'taters, mesquite, and started a homemade sling shot made from the fork of a cedar tree limb.

*grin*
