I'm working on gettng some pics posted, but have a question, first: What would be the purpose of defacing the US Ordnance stamp (flaming bomb)? The one I have has been almost totally obliterated by the application of tiny pin punch marks, rather neatly done. I apologize for the lousy oic and will try to post a better one ASAP.

A pic of the sheath:

The knife itself. I have been unable to find ANY markings on the blade or hilt:

any markings on the guard? picture of the pommel peen might help.

I have one of those, but I don't know what year it's from. My sis-in-law found it in the basement of a house she was renting. I do know one thing, though. It's sharper than crap on a door knob. LOL....

I'll try to get a better pic of the pommel. According to the previous owner of this knife, her husband brought it back from the Pacific during WWII. She found it in an old toolbox of his when cleaning out their garage sometime after his death. I also have his issued KABAR, which was also found in the same toolbox.

No new pic, yet, but further examination of the M3's guard shows that any markigs that were on the lower guard have been nachined off. The 'flaming bomb', while having been 'dimpled over', is still identifiable. In addition, the blade appears to still have its original issued edge, having NOT been resharpened. It also retains approximately 75-85% of its original finish. Also...as can been seen in the supplied pics, the sheath, while original to the knife, isn't the sheath I associate with the M3. It lacks, and has never had, the protective metal tip. It is also evident from the pics, that this knife and sheath were worn...considerably...by someone. I promise to have better pics up ASAP.
