Is it possible for me to be able to repoint the tip on this early 70's 110 with say a Lansky system (non diamond)? When looking at the knife from a normal distance by eye you can not really tell the very end of the tip is blunted but when looking closer I noticed it. I would say its about 1mm flat at the tip.
I was wondering if I kept sharping the tip from the blade end up towards the spine would it eventually be pointy? its totally functional, more of my OCD that is the issue.

I would not be comfortable working from the spine end down to the blade edge nor do I have the tools to even do that.

There is your picture. To post a a picture, you click on the "get link codes" on the top left of the page and go to the bottom "IMG" option.

Anyway, i think you would have no trouble on the Lansky. If you have the red coarse stone it should be easy to sharpen it down to a tip. I have done this to a few knives.

Thanks Sweet, I have the lansky kit on order so will give it a shot..
thanks for the tip on how to post the photo in the actual posting but I do not see anything that says "get link codes". What am I doing wrong or missing?
thanks

It is in the row of icons on the top right corner. There is a facebook, twitter, share via email, and then the get link codes thing. it looks like two chain links. It is on the top left. In my other post i said right. Sorry.

Thats really weird, I do not have any of those options either on the right or left hand side at the top. I am using google chrome as my browser so maybe that is the reason.
I will have to play around with this some more.

Under my posting permissions it says "You may not post attachments". maybe this is why I can not see those options? I tried IE explorer and did not see those options either.

thanks, Tried firefox as well. I think it has something to do with my permissions. I read the help section and FAQ and thats the only thing I can think of. Are you a paying member? If I am reading the help section correctly it seems I may need to be a paying member to be able to post the attachment in the posting.
If you are not a paying member then I am stumped but appreciate the help and tip, no pun intended, on using the red coarse stone to get my tip back on the knife.

I am not a paid member. That is strange that it wont let you post. Are you using the full site?

On photobucket, hover your mouse over the photo in the library, you should see a gear symbol, click it, and go from there.

Copy the img code and then paste it into your post here.

i think i got it. Go to the album option under settings and make sure "IMG code" is enabled

Never mind, that isnt it

Chris, lets see if this works. doing what you said but will not know until I hit the post reply button

Brother broke the tip off this 470. Didn't take long to reprofile it with a Lansky.
Could have trimmed the belly down a little more, but kind of like it as I left it.

wow, that is impressive.. I will have no trouble at all then with the tiny tip that is missing from mine. thanks for the photos, great job on that tip.

I've had to rework a few tips. One thing to keep in mind, if you can, grind down the spine to edge instead of grinding the edge up to the spine. If you remove extra steel from the edge side your knifes point may stick out when the knife is closed. :)

Hi, thanks for the tip but I am not comfortable working from the spine edge. just not sure how it will look and if I make it look worse then it will drive me nuts..
I worked on it a bit already with the lansky and seems about the same, I think I will just let it go as is...
