So I have a well used salt 1 that after a mixture of mine and anothers ignorance has shallow serrations. I sent it to spyderco to see if they could fix it and did a good job fixing my mistakes but the edge just isnt what i remember it to be. I asked them to re-profile the serrations but they said that would remove too much stock from the blade. I remember cleanly slicing corners off of paper (my standard sharpness test). I need help bringing the serrations back to scary sharp, its a user edc blade so thats all that matters to me. It kind of tears things right now. I am armed with a spyderco sharpmaker (fine and medium). Can any of you sharpening gurus help me out?

i use the slotted paper wheel to maintain the serrated blade on my gerber multipliers. you can use a wooden dowel with some 3m wetordry sandpaper attached to work up a burr and then use a strip of leather to strop the edge and remove the burr.

My first thought was, it may be some burrs on the newly-refurbished edge that are getting in your way. If they did a relatively quick touch-up on it with a powered apparatus/grinder of some sort, it wouldn't surprise me if they left a few burrs on it. It may just be a matter of cleaning those up. A good magnifier, used with good lighting, might reveal some of those tatters on the edge.

Thank you, I am going to make a trip to lowes today!
if you are getting a set of the paper wheels, get them at any woodcraft store or through grizzly imports. if you want some help getting started send me an email with your number and i'll give you a call. rje196021@gmail.com

here is a link to my tips page where i have a link to the variable speed buffer lowes sells that will work great with them.

here is a vid of a knife i made that is on a private passaround. the edge is a half convex chisel grind (done on a belt sander) that was finished off on the slotted paper wheel.
