Re-profile the Leek?

So I have a leek and I love it but I was wondering if anyone has re-profiled theirs to maybe decrease the length and thinness of the somewhat fragile tip? Or maybe if this has even happened to someone's Leek organically through being carried and sharpened over a long period of time? I was considering taking some of the tip in a little to give me a somewhat shorter knife, maybe even put a very slight curve on the tip to assist with draw cuts. Just a random thought/idea.

I've seen a few where the tip broke off so the owner reprofiled it like you're talking about. Sorry I don't have any pics handy but it's been done. You could always ask Richard if you want it done professionally and for a good price. You can find him in the services offered section of this forum.

they do have a pretty thin tip. if you are not able to do it, get in touch with me like leek freak said. i'll be glad to help you out :D.

Just bought a couple new knives and a new light so I will need to recoup some funds but hopefully soon I will be sending you a PM!

Thinking more on it, I still want to do this but I think I will wait until the tip breaks or bends on it's own. No use in wasting that extra blade length while I still have it. Lately it is my primary EDC and when the time comes and I either have bent or broken the tip or replaced it from EDC rotation I think I will throw it into a capable sharpeners hands (talking about you Rich J) and receive back a stubby new leek with some slight curve at the tip.

The tip on mine has never broken, but the blade has changed shape through use. I carried mine for several years (and still often do) and have used it extensively. With all that use, it has been sharpened time and time again. Throughout all of this, the SLIGHT curve that was on the blade from the manufacturer has now gone. It has an almost perfectly straight edge to it and I have found that to be easier to use. I bought a new Leek last year and was surprised at how different it felt with that curve.

I actually enjoy the flat edge more... Who knew.

I guess it's true what they call it, a mix between a box cutter and a folding knife. Now I know I will definitely give it a chance to earn it's stripes before I throw it to the grinder. Either way it's in better shape than when I got my BM Mini-Barrage and the edges were so uneven I had to regrind it.
