Hi all,
I've been playing with my new ZT 561 and have been wondering if using the Sharp Maker and diamond rods set at 30 degrees (edge and flat) and then using the regular gray, white and ultra fine rods I could "improve" the edge? My purpose is EDC light cutting but mostly as self defense backup. I am a US citizen retired in a country where my cane and knife are the limit for self defense.
Since I'm not going to use the knife in edge damaging activities would the 30 degree included angle be better than the factory edge? Advice? Opinions?
Thanks to all in advance.

I've found elmax is stable at most edge angles. I'd go agead and do it, especially since it'll make it easier to sharpen in the future.

I have a ZT 0801 which is in Elmax that I have pulled back to 30deg inclusive and it has been just fine. I don't run my knives really hard, I just don't have a need to so I cant comment on durability over and above opening mail, clam shell packaging, cutting rope, ect....

Shouldn't be a problem. If you have a strop with some green compound on it, you can maintain that edge for a very long time as long as you don't let it get too far gone.

just my 0.02

Thanks guys, I'll give it a go...
Drew do you recommend an online source of green compound and stropping materials? I live in Morocco and have to get stuff like that online.

Green stropping compound is actually very easy to find. It's primary use is as a polishing compound, so it can be found at many hardware stores, such as home depot, Lowe's, or Harbor Freight.
