Thanks in part to this evil forum, I have "accumulated" a couple dozen or so fixed blade knives with general hiking/camping utility use goals. One of the first I purchased was an Entrek Javelina. Ray Ennis makes some quality knives, and the Javelina fit my size range, but as my collection grew and my preferences focused I realized that I wasn't a fan of hollow grinds. I'm not trying to debate the merits of each grind type. I'm sure there are those of you who could easily school me on the benefits of each grind, but I find that liking the way a knife looks plays a role in how much time it spends on my belt vs in a box. I just don't really like hollow grinds, or for that matter scandi grinds. I like flat grinds and/or full convex. Call it personal preference, but I never could warm up to a Mora, and every hollow grind I had ended up at the bottom of the box-o-knives. What to do? I already owned the Javelina, and I appreciated everything about Entrek knives, and I tinker, so I decided "what the hell". Sorry for the poor quality of the picture, but here's my Javelina after a little time with a belt sander and a lot of time on a stone. It's morphed from a saber/hollow to a full convex. I took it out for a test drive and I really like the results. It could use a bit more polishing, but that will come with time. I did something similar to a Condor Bushlore and love it. I'm more careful in my selection these days, and don't plan on reinventing the wheel with every one of my knives, but all in all I'm happy, and the Entrek gets to go out and play a lot more now.
