Re-profiling bevel angles.

Hey!

So I just bought the Lion Steel t5. I love it so far and from what I've read online, it has a 22° bevel angle. I was wondering, should I keep the current angle or have it re-profiled to 20° and would this be easy to do? It's made from Niolox and has a HRC of 59. I will be using it primarily in a back country setting as my primary fixed blade for camping.

Also, could I just use a 20° carbide sharpener for a 22° bevel or will this ruin the edge?

Any advice is helpful,

Thanks!

While I would prefer a 20 dps edge, you might want to use it a while and see how it works for you.
When you say 20 degree carbide sharpener, you mean one of those little pull through sharpeners...no don't use it. I'd save that for cheap knives you don't care about.

Carbide doesn’t abrade steel as much as rips and tears it on a microscopic level. The jaggedy raggedy result seems sharp, like a saw. But when those shredded scraps wear off, you’re often left with a deformed edge, duller than before.

There are inexpensive guided stone or diamond devices that allow you to regulate the bevel angle, within limits. One of those is a much better option, long term.

If it’s for me I drop it to as low as it will handle. My Delica is 12 dps. My Voyager is 17. General kitchen knives are 22
