The major problem with acquiring old Traditionals is often they have had a hard and abusive previous life .
Broken or over sharpened blades are a common problem .
I was wondering if anyone has pics of blades that they have resurrected into usable ones by re-profiling and re-shaping ?
I just received an old Traditional that needs some home improvements to bring it back to life , and I need some inspiration :)

Some of my favorite knives were purchased for next to nothing because of broken blades.
I don't always remember to take a 'before' picture.

If you have a clip blade with a broken tip, you can decide to either bring the spine down to make a modified wharncliffe, or bring the edge up to make a thicker but still pointy tip.

I hope this gives you some inspiration, Ken. Please take some before/after pics of your project.

The stainless Case on top I reprofiled to a drop point sheepsfoot hybrid, it looks ugly but sorta combines the two in terms of benefits.

This was a broken tip clip blade and, to maximize blade length, I made it a wharncliffe.
Wharncliffe and sheepsfoot are good ways to go if there isn't a ton of blade left, but reprofiling into a shorter clip, pen, spey, etc. is not impossible or too hard to do.

Here is what I'm working with .

The main blade has a broken tip and major problems with the edge .
I have turned it into a Sheepsfoot blade to get the blade tip down below the edge of the handle when the blade is in the closed position .
These pics are as I received the knife , no cleaning , nothing done to it , sorry about pic quality , these were just quickly snapped inside under lights .
I will post up some pics when its completed .

I bought this one new in 1989. Busted about ¼" off the tip over 20 years ago, and just didn't use it much for a long time. About 5 years ago I got a 1x30 belt sander and reground a new tip profile. Notice how much wider the bevel is at the tip- losing that much put me back into thicker blade stock because of the distal taper. Otherwise as good as new.

Oh yeah I made this Schrade made Holub branded electricians knife a sheepsfoot. It was a hawkbill, and like black mamba's knife, the taper meant a thi ker tip. It's quite a good thing to be thicker on a hard working sheepsfoot.

Here's an after shot, no before pics available.

This is my most recent blade mod. I am getting better about taking before pictures but often forget still!

It is difficult to see, but the pen had a wicked chip and sat proud so I made it into a sheepsfoot.

I'm really happy to see I'm not the only person who enjoys reshaping and reviving blades
Keep those pics coming , all of the above posts are great adaptations .

Very nice! I really like the blade shape, not to mention the overall cleanup of the whole knife.
