Hi there, I am pretty new to knife making and am working on my first o-1tool steel knife. I’ve been using 10xx high carbons so far with a good bit of luck and wanted to try o-1. I am doing stock removal on a bar of sneaked o-1. I got everything ground and heat treated it by heating to non-magnetic and quenching in canola oil. It seemed to harden very well and I could make any marks with a file. The problem is during temper Tge blade got too hot and turned a dark gold with some bluish/ purple areas. I haven’t had that before and So all that to ask that to re-heat and quench do I need to stabilize first or is it fine to go ahead and start the heat treat again?
