re-tying the laynard knot

I just disassembled my Sebenza for the first time to clean and lube it. Opens and closes perfectly again. But when I tried, several times, to re-tie the laynard, I just wasn't able to get it to look as good as before.
Any suggestions? Maybe I need to start with a new piece of cord?
