NEW THREAD: Titled Man kills Black Bear with his knife.
Yesterday on July 24th a man with his dog was confronted by a 185 pound black bear while portaging his canoe near Wawa Ontario. The bear lunged for the dog and grabbed it by the back in an effort to kill the dog by breaking its back. While the bear was distracted by its attack on the dog, the man came around to the bear from behind and started stabbing and cutting into the bear's neck until it he could feel it weaken and let go of the dog. Apparently from his account the bear was dead in less than two minutes, his dog survived the attack and the man only had minor injuries. Things would have turned out badly if he hadn't carried his knife on his belt.:jerkit:
The ministry of natural resources came to measure and weigh the bear. It was 185 pounds, not huge but definitely a killer. On the radio interview the man said it all happened so fast, and he did not want to let his dog die like that. He went on to say that he was surprised how easy it was for the knife to penetrate and cut into the bear's neck. He did this while using his other hand to hold the bear while he cut. He said he could feel the bear weaken almost from the very first cut and slash action he made into the neck of the beast.
After the attack he was scraped up from the battle looking alittle ragged and managed to canoe across a lake to a cabin where a couple of fishermen took him back to the hospital for first aid and a few stitches.
I believe the message is clear here. When you go out in the forest be prepared for anything, carry your knife on your belt not deep in the bags somewhere.
