Readily available Stockman in carbon steel?

I've been eyeballing a Case medium sockman in CV (pattern 63032 ), but before I bite the bullet, I'm wondering what other options there are.

Here's what I'm looking for:

~3.5" closed
Carbon steel blades
Natural handle material (bone/wood/horn/antler/etc)
Not flimsy, no thin blades, etc
~$60 or less

By "readily available" I mean just that; something that I don't have to search high and low for. Recent or old, age/production date doesn't matter, as long is it's in new/unused condition. Country of origin doesn't matter.

I don't really care for synthetic handles. If a knife is only available with synthetic handles, but is otherwise "right", go ahead and suggest it.

I know there's a lot of older (and newer) German made knives in carbon steel, but I'm not very knowledgeable about these brands.

I'd also be open to suggestions of other patterns as long as they fit the above criteria, and has at least a wharncliffe/sheepsfoot and a "regular" blade. I really, really like the Case Wharcliffe Mini Trapper, but AFAIK these are only available in stainless.:grumpy: I'm already aware of the Swayback Jack (and plan on getting one), so no need to suggest that one.;)

This is going to be a "working knife". Something to develop a nice patina on, carry until the jigging gets "pocket worn" smooth. And then maybe pass on to the next generation if/when I have a kid of my own, or maybe a nephew (my bother is married, but I'm not). I was planning on getting a Case Congress to fit that bill, but why limit myself to a single pattern, right? I'm very new to traditionals, so I've barely started a collection, let alone have found the "perfect" knife.

Thanks.

Buck made/makes stockmans in carbon steel?

The GECs are larger than I want. I only see Queens in D2.

I'll check out the Bokers and the Eye Brands.

Consider the 65318 in Bonestag, nice deep jigging and cv, Serpentine frame.

The Forum 08 knife was a small Stockman based on Northwood's/Queen frame.

CASE cv Humpback Whittler could be to your taste, sturdy enough I believe

Böker Germany makes nice carbon Stockmans but at 4" you may find it too large. They do a smaller one but unsure if it's carbon. Their Whittlers are very good, but you said no 'flimsy' blades(not easy on a small frame...)although they are thin, the Cope and Pen blades are very good indeed, worth thinking about.

What knife is this? Googling 65318 turns up nothing.

This one looks great. Something tells me I won't find one easily though.:(

Yeah, 4" is larger than I care for. I just got a Buck 301, and it's too big for my tastes.

EDIT: I've fond some Boker medium stockmans 3.5" closed, with carbon steel, bone handles, and around $40. Looks like this could be a contender.

I'll have to take a look at the whittlers. At 3.5" they look like they might fit the bill if the blades aren't too thin. How do the backsprings work on these? Does the main blade use both backsprings?

Moore Maker. Several sizes in 1095. Made by Queen, IIRC. I have an XL- 4 3/8 closed, very good quality.
Will need to be sharpened, however.

No Buck in carbon.

300Bucks/ch

That's what I thought. Hearing that from you makes that definitive.

I still plan on getting a 303 in charcoal dymondwood, and if I like that one enough, maybe one in buffalo horn. I dig the sheepsfoot they use with the new (Buck made) 303/301; nice grind, great placement.

It uses both springs. I have one and it's a solid knife.

I think you've already found the knife you want. The 63032CV is available in amber bone and chestnut bone. That's the one I recommend. Of course the Moore Maker model that size would fit the bill, but might be a bit more expensive. - Ed

Utica Kutmaster offers a 3 9/16" Stockman with jigged bone scales and 1095 carbon steel. Sells for about $25 under your price cap. US made to boot.

I don't own one yet but have been meaning to try one out. Someone here posted a pic of the Utica Barlow and it looked like a very nice knife for the price.

I have a small Boker Stockman, maybe about 3" or so closed. I thought it looked a little flimsy when I bought it, but that was a good ten years ago and I don't tend to baby things. It would probably serve you well.

Times two.

I would suggest the Chestnut and since a picture is worth a thousand words.........

Yellow Delrin but a nice knife capable of hard work. I know it not natural handle material (bone/wood/horn/antler/) but it's durable and holds up well to hard use. Of course you don't have to get yellow. Delrin comes in many colors and is available in many textures -- smooth, jigged, etc..

Case CV 3 5/8" Stockman:

Several Stockman threads have run lately. Seek a couple out to see other choices.

I prefer carbon but there are a lot of GREAT knives out there with stainless.

German Eye Brand makes a 3.5" stockman with stag that fits all the criteria you listed. I have the larger size, but here's a picture to show you what one of their knives looks like after a few years of carry.

I've been thrilled with the quality of recent Boker purchases, including a couple of carbon steel stockman knives. Well under your price limit too.
