These are a new type for me. They are all forge welded. Most are 5160 but a few are 1065 and one is made with mild steel and with a core of 1084/95. The one on the left is going to be my combo as a thrower and a user and I plan on testing this one pretty throughly. Its under 6" and has an edge of over 3". Its got a good heft to it since it was made from 1 1/2" X 1/4" 5160......

Ray, Did you have any trouble welding 5160, I have heard that it can be troublesome. A good selection there all look good and don't forget handles. Gib

Gib, You know the ones I did today and they were all 5160 did give me problems. Got one out of 3 to weld up. I had my anhidrous borax sitting on my bence for a couple years and it was left open. It was full of crap, mostly saw dust and it worked great. I tried a mix of anhidrous and some welding compound and it didn't work to good. Think I'll just throw some saw dust in my anhidrous and see if the saw dust in the secret ingrediant. Handles, why do you ask.....

Hey Ray it look's like you have been a busy guy , Maybe we will have to "Pound " together sometime

Matt,
I'm sure we could get together and do some forging.

Bruce,
Did get the heat treating done. Put a haft on the larger one and tried it out and it was exactly what I had expected. Its a perfect user, did some chopping with it and threw it a number of times. I need to figure out a way to make it a "smart hawk". The tree I was using for a target would move every once and a while. Up untill yesterday I thought it was just the ones that were alive that would move on you. This tree has been dead for at least 5 years and it still moved. Once I got the distance down and improved my aim it stuck everytime but sure is tuff on the handles. I was asked for a photo from top down, might as well add it here. BTW, the hammer I told you I made out of the rebar that Bruce Evans gave me is setting under the piece of flat stock. I've yet to forge a knife with it but sure works great for doing the hawks. Its the only one I use for forging now.
