My dad gave me "his old survival knife" and it is what appears to be a Buckmaster 184. Im no expert on knives but i know they can be pretty pricey. I dont plan on selling it either way but it would be cool to know.

Im not sure how to attach images so that advice would also be appreciated 🥲

I'm NOT an expert in Buck Knives, including the Buckmaster, but a quick Google search pulled up the page below. See the second knife listed under item 1:

If the listed information is correct then your knife is a copy made in Japan by Guttman Cutlery in the 1980's, not an original.

Regardless, it's a cool piece that is made moreso by the fact that your father used it. If I were you I would cherish it.

Any story on how / why it has a ( if it's real ) Buck 148 sheath ?
Can't answer for the owner of this knife, but the cheap copies of the Buck 184 that came out of Taiwan (can be found under the name "Ramster". I'm guessing Rambo/Buckmaster) had the same injection molded scabbard. They even had the spring steel internal retainers and the stone recessed into the back.
I assume that these more expensive Japan made knives also had this.
There have been surplus scabbards on eBay from time to time.

I know they copied the knife sheath and all, but this one says Buck on it.

I was just curious because when I first saw the OP's pictures I laughed a little, the knife is clearly marked with a completely different brand coo and model number but he still thought it might be a Buck.
Then I noticed the Buck sheath figured that's why he thought it might somehow still be a Buck knife.

My guess is the sheath and pouch are authentic Buck. At least the pouch is. Purchased and paired with the knife later. Hard to know for sure on the sheath without seeing the backside.
