A German invention: beauty of the leather, protection against water and mud, they call it KUHDEX
It is real leather you can drop it in a river and the mud and water won't harm it
 
Useful. I saturate my leather sheaths with SnowSeal to seal them against moisture; also keeps them from softening.
 
Call me skeptical but, it's almost impossible if not completely impossible to completely waterproof real leather. I have seen too many "too good to be true" claims not pan out to put much faith in this. I hope that I'm wrong because that would be really great.
 
Herman Oak has been producing two different waterproof leathers for a while now.
