Sorry guys i meant Knives instead of swords, sorry about that.

Well i am getting sick and tired of how some of my friends brag about how replicas are sharp enough to kill somebody if they wanted to. I keep on telling them that a replica sword cannot kill anyone because its not sharp first of all and its probably made from the crappiest steel from China... Also no one would ever use a replica sword for any purpose other then showing it off in a case or a stand...

But just to clarify can replica even kill somebody?

Sorry guys if this is in the wrong section, if so please move it mod!

You're lost ...

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

I see no reason why any piece of steel used (im)properly couldnt injure or even kill someone. Even if its crappy steel it doesnt mean its going to magically crumple on contact with human skin. Its still harder than wood, which can kill.

Look to the UK. The cheapos have killed enough people to warrent bringing in draconian laws. You can kill someone with a brick, so work up from there. You don't need much to be able to kill someone.

However the cheapos have a nasty habit of injuring their Mall Ninja masters. They are difficult to use in confined spaces without proper training, and with proper training you soon discover they come apart easily with the twists.

As far as wall hangers go it means that the value of defense is diluted in a house robbery as your defense weapon is on the wall and likely to be nicked.

I guess that they would be great for walking over to your noisy neighbour mowing his lawn and dispatching him. More than that they are very, very limited.

Well i still would rather use a real knive then a replica knive, its like what Tim-Gavz said "They come aprt easily with the twist". I mean you might just as well grab the dull blade and twist it... or get something really hard so that when he strikes the hardest he block it with a really hard shield or something and watch the replica handle fall apart from the blade...

Seems like I remember something from HSN involving bodily injury and a replica sword :whistling:

Anyway, all it takes is a piece of steel to injure, maim or kill anyone. The only need to work once or a few times. Most commonly used edged weapon we see on the streets? Cheap screwdrivers. Hell of a puncture tool, used by lots of transients.

The most certainly can......

Did you know that a cheap kitchen steak knife is among the most used knives by BGs on the street.

Do you believe that every sword used on the field in history was of the finest quality made by the finest smiths?

They may not be ideal but they can be dangerous

Perhaps you need to listen to your friends... ;)

The other side of the coin, you don't get many murders or retard attacks with the real thing because the owner knows its real value.

Why use something expensive such as a well made hunting knife when for a couple of bucks a fleamarket hunter will do the trick or mum's can cutting cutlery. This is the predominant issue in the developed world (in Africa it tends towards Pangas). Even then they often fail to get the job done.

The fleamarket kit rarely is reliable. As a teenager I hankered after one of those Ranbo type do it all knives. Never managed to get one and the only one I saw in action injured the owner by a detatched blade doinging a return to sender. I don't think I would ever feel happy using a fleamarket blade as an emergency back up or defence. The wealthy used to go for the best blades that they could afford because blade failure tended to be terminally embarrasing in a conflict situation. In addition when you hit some one you wanted him to stay down.

Most of us would, if faced with an adversary armed with blade and several bottles of courage would walk away, or run. I can not see any justification in owing one of these for decor or defense. They are tatty, unreliable and dangerous to wielder.

Technically speaking, every sword made today is a replica, if by replica you mean copy of an original. Anything can be used as a lethal weapon, whether it's your own hands, a boot, or some wallhanger you bought from Budk for $20.

I think its whatever a person is looking to decorate their walls with. Some folks just want a certain these say in their living room so they get some cheap made sword that fits that certain theme. Most folks are uneducated when it comes to bladed weapons.

Now those of us that are educated and are specifically nit-picky, we get the real deal. Personally, I could not hang a crappy sword on my walls. I would be emberressed!:o

Woh... Who knew this world was fill with such simple material that could kill you. I mean a even a wall hanger could do damage (i didnt even thought about that)...

The only use I got out of the stainless wall hangers was when I cut them down a bit, removed the edges and used it for sword swallowing.

The other ones I left sharp for my sword bed.

Crappy steel is still dangerous. Anyone who doubts this ought to consider the quality of weapons used throughout the iron and bronze ages and how many people were killed in war during that time.

Furthermore, there are very few functional swords made today that are true replicas of original pieces, and even fewer still that are wall-hanger replicas of original pieces. Most wall-hanger swords are total fantasy, and are nothing more than sword-like objects (SLO for short). However, there are a number of manufacturers and custom makers out there that are putting out some truly functional swords.

If you have any doubts, just grab one of Cold Steel's free promotional DVDs. Just about any well-made sword should be able to do, but they're the only ones with a video showing it so far.

SLOs........, swords run the spectrum from good (well made) to bad (poorly made). Regardless where they fall they are all "Swords".

Here is a wall hanger 'replica' (single edge) something which I have successfully been hacking Ailanthus saplings and Kudzu vines with. It does so well I am thinking of coming up with a belt sheath for it (something using a slip on belt hanger, as on the Bianchi UM 84 series holsters).

I most certainly would not want to be attacked by someone using this, not unless I saw them coming and had my Webley already out...
