IS a rat tail kukri from nepal ok for big woodwork like batoning ok, or should i stick to a full tang model?
has anyone used a rat tail kukri for real heavy duty chopping, batoning? how did it do?

Himalayan Imports kukris use more of a kangaroo tail and they are plenty tough. In fact that style of handle transmits less vibration to your hand so you can chop longer.

Make sure it's properly sharpened and test it on light brush first to see how it does. All khukris are NOT created equal. Quality khuks from H.I. use truck leaf springs and the heat treatment is usually very good. I have seen other khuks made from scrap mystery metal with a chintzy chrome finish and no edge at all (many aren't even from Nepal, but Pakistan or India). Lots of "novelty" khuks out there. Most traditional Nepalese khuks would be fine for chopping wood, even with a rat tail tang, and they should be cheap to replace if they break.
