I ordered a benchmade 940 for $193 off amazon lol was probably my first mistake but I have 30 days to return it. I am concerned because the bottom left corner of the Benchmade sticker has been cut and covered up by a barcode sticker. I called and complained to amazon about the damage so they sent me a replacement it too had the same damage. I realize its intentional damage and shady none the less. I would like to mention its sold by primedeals online which there not an authorized dealer for benchmade. This is my first benchmade so I don't have one to compare it against. The font on both boxes are the same and I can't tell the difference between a legit one on YouTube. The knives feel identical they also have a grippy feel to them almost like a chalky feeling. I will try to add as many pictures as I can the one with the paper in the pocket clip will be the one I recieved first and the one without will be the replacement.

I don't know how to add pics so you can view them but here is a link to my flickr account hopefully this will work https://www.flickr.com/photos/161652524@N06/shares/w0Vs6J to make matters even more concerning amazon offered to give me the second one free so 2 for the price of one or return both for a refund then buy one at an authorized dealer for $152 out the door idk what to do lol

They look legitimate to me. I’m sure more knowledgeable people will chime in.

If you’re talking about the sticker that lists the model, I can see on your boxes that the seller removed, on both knives, the portion that lists (I assume) the date of manufacture.

If you look at the picture below, mine was made 5 days ago on 1-8-19. Also, the only differences I could see was that the coloring between your two knives are a little different, which would make sense if they’re from different years. And in the last pic, the axis stud has 3 steps/ridges on one, and 4 on the other. Mine has 3, fwiw.

I would be happy since they look legit to me.

Yea, I was refering to the benchmade label that had the manufacturer date removed, they had their barcode sticker placed over it. I stuck the barcode sticker on back so that way you would be able to see what I was talking about. I didn't notice the axis stud. I took a better look at it and notice on one side is 3 step and the other is the 4 step you were talking about, it's not really a 4 step but it recesses a little bit then goes into the hole on the last step. I also noticed the hole was a bit larger on that side as well, could be me though. I have a few photos of them side by side https://flic.kr/s/aHskMcou1R I was not really comparing them against each other because there coming from the same seller and could be counterfeit. I was trying to see how these check out against other 940s, that are legit of course lol.

Yea, with the axis stud, it just looked like an extra little bit of metal. Wasn’t concerning. And that makes more sense in regards to the stickers.
I was looking at 940 when I was going through your photos and nothing looked off.

Those are the new designs. No website or patent numbers on the blade and the clips are parkerized and not painted. If the retailer offered to give you a free one I'd say go for it. Maybe he got old boxes?

Not to sure why someone would remove the date its not as important like on a food product or something lol and for them to come off of a $200 knife, but then again it wasn't the seller that said that, it was the amazon customer service lady who offered me the deal and also sent me a confirmation email. I am going to go to a few local shops around me and get there opinion on it as well, so far looks like I'm getting 2 for the price of one. :)

Was the knife shipped and sold by amazon or was it a third party seller that is fulfilled by amazon?

Well, I took it to a couple of shops 1 was an authorized dealer for Benchmade and they all said it looked legit, everything was done right, pocket clip, green anodizing, blade steel all looked good 1 guy said "if they are fake there pretty damn good" he told me not to worry they both look identical to the ones that come in and Benchmades QC is not the best. I guess I have 2 now? Lol

Seems like you got an amazing deal!

It does seem weird that they would remove the date code...

Has anything come of the date removal - I have a 940-1 that I purchased in 2016 and the box does not have a date on it at all. Was Benchmade printing the date on the boxes back then? If no when was this introduced?
It would be great to get some feed back on this one, even though I am late responding to the thread.

I think they started dating the boxes in 2017.
Thank Babyboomer, that timeframe aligns nicely with what I want to hear, hopefully BMK Jimmy might be able to confirm.
After having a look through the collection, I also have the Contego 810 and no date on the box.
Also does anyone know what year the boxes all changed to the really nice current box? I have an original 943 that came in the old horizontal slide out.
Obviously this was copied and Benchmade changed to the newer box, but when did it change??

I have 2 benchmade boxes that I have bought directly from benchmade. One is the shoot out. The other is the 940-3 neither one has a date on it.

Those look legit to me. My son got a counterfeit bugout recently and the box cover was a different blue with the “grain” pattern being abnormally prominent. The barcode was also formatted differently than my dealer bought knives. Your barcode is formatted correctly.

My latest Benchmade, a 940BK-03, has a QR code where the date used to be, and the date is printed quite small to the right of the Blue Class designation. The QR code takes me to Benchmade's website.
