Seems like you got an amazing deal!Well, I took it to a couple of shops 1 was an authorized dealer for Benchmade and they all said it looked legit, everything was done right, pocket clip, green anodizing, blade steel all looked good 1 guy said "if they are fake there pretty damn good" I guess I have 2 now? Lol
That's really wierd - I just got a 940 off Amazon and my box has the date code cut off as well.It does seem weird that they would remove the date code...
Thank Babyboomer, that timeframe aligns nicely with what I want to hear, hopefully BMK Jimmy might be able to confirm.I think they started dating the boxes in 2017.
I have 2 benchmade boxes that I have bought directly from benchmade. One is the shoot out. The other is the 940-3 neither one has a date on it.They look legitimate to me. I’m sure more knowledgeable people will chime in.
If you’re talking about the sticker that lists the model, I can see on your boxes that the seller removed, on both knives, the portion that lists (I assume) the date of manufacture.
If you look at the picture below, mine was made 5 days ago on 1-8-19. Also, the only differences I could see was that the coloring between your two knives are a little different, which would make sense if they’re from different years. And in the last pic, the axis stud has 3 steps/ridges on one, and 4 on the other. Mine has 3, fwiw.
I would be happy since they look legit to me.

Has Benchmade really changed their label to that style? Seems like an great way to make a fake seem legitimate ("see, our label QR code even takes you to the Benchmade Website"). Anyway, only asking because I just received a box with same type label - I already suspected it was fake as unopened I can hear knife the sliding around inside (i.e. rubbing a cardboard bottom and clunking cardboard sides vs. foarm - unless of course they have quit using the foam-like liners now too for some product lines (?) ). Can anyone speak to the QR code and/or whether there are any models being packaged the days with what sounds like a box that has no liner? My latest Benchmade, a 940BK-03, has a QR code where the date used to be, and the date is printed quite small to the right of the Blue Class designation. The QR code takes me to Benchmade's website.
