I am currently looking at a spyderco southard used on ebay... though the seller looks legit, the price has me kind of worried... that and the scales etc...
I am also going to contact the seller, but any opinions here?

Fake, even though the pictures are hard to tell details, Spyderco has only released Southards with brown and black scales. On top of that, the orange scale was a popular choice for the counterfeits. Unless that was an aftermarket scale, that is most definitely a clone. You can ask him for detailed pics of the blade and then search Spyderco Southard clone, there will be detailed pics in images that clearly show what the differences are.

thanks, kind of what i thought. i also only found the orange scales on aliexpress knives.

If he's claiming it came from the factory like that, ya definitely fake. However, there are plenty of makers that make scales for southards. Maybe the guy had an orange one made.

With all of the aftermarket scales, it does make buying tricky sometimes! If I had to guess, I'd call fake as well.

Fake. The choil area of the grip has a step to it, something that comes with the original spyderco southard. However, that kind of step is really hard to do by hand without some sort of CNC machine or something. That step is also unnecessary, I suspect that Spyderco chose to make the step over a traditional slope because it is cheaper to machine out. Therefore, almost any scale maker would choose to replace that step with a slope or round rather than copying Spyderco's original step so precisely. A step is harder to do by hand and also results in a less smooth grip.

fake,i don't buy off e-bay sellers for my knifes, just because of this!other things yes, knifes no,i would return it and buy from one of the big-box sellers on the web,or used hear on the forum.

Just a short update... It was for 110€ starting.. But yeah, I figured a nice fixed knife that jumped at me was nicer ;)
