I've received a few e-mails lately from knife owners either concerned that their knives are chinese copies, or asking for pointers on how to tell the difference before they buy. I thought maybe it was time to post pictures and research links again.

Imperial Schrade USA 15OT:

This is the real Schrade. There were quite a few variations on the tangstamps, but nearly always they said "U.S.A.". The imported copies don't. Also note the flat shield, and the plain nickle silver rivets. Disregard any blade etches, because those can change or be deleted on the imported knives.

Copy imported from China by Taylor:

Note the lack of a USA marking, the fancier coined shield, and the spun appearance of the rivets.

This thread link is my research on the Schrade 15OT pattern.

This thread is a review of the Chinese Taylor 15OT.

I have not had the opportunity to examine the chinese copy of the 152OT and post a review here, but many of the construction details are common with the 15OT Chitaylor.

With the uncommon exception of a few private labeled special factory order knives, the real deal will almost always say "U. S. A." on the blade. There are quite a few tangstamps different from those I have shown on the real Schrades, but so far at least, the Taylor copies remain as you see them.

I hope this helps. If anyone has "oopse'd" a chitaylor 152OT and want it reviewed here, send it to me. I won't waste my money buying one!

Thanks so much for that Codger, looks like I've got the genuine article in both the 150t and the smaller 152 both unsharpened but used.
I'm pleased with my purchase.
I guess I'l die a happy man..

You have a pair of Schrade's best to use, collect, and enjoy. Both of these were made at one time or another in a Uncle Henry version with fancier "Staglon" stagged delrin handles, as you will read in those threads, and a lot of neat variants were made over the years with wood, bone, sambar stag, or other handle materials. In the words of Karen Carpenter, "you've only just begun"!! :D

I like the Carpenters too, ha ha perfect voice that girl.
Funny I just pulled out an old german bokker almost same size as the deerslayer, wouldn't even bother with it, now. Ha this all started because I lost my folding skinner that I used on foxes here in Oz. the 152 is perfect size for that job and rabbits, only a few more years and I get my guns and license back.... long story totally innocent couldn't afford a barrister to keep my guns, with new anti gun legislation here in oz. Then I can get back out west and do what I love best, even have to register a bow and arrows here now ha ha..
I think I'l go looking round at s hand shops now in the knife section..
Cheers Neil

Neil,
I'd guess that OZ means Australia.
It's a darn shame that your government patterns it's laws after the UK.
I suppose if someone attacks a crowd in a mickey-d with a knife,you'll lose your Schrades,too.
You guys need an NRA.
Now that the United Nations wants to ban private ownership of guns,world-wide;you may have company.
